I have some nice 1/4 inch aluminum out in the garage ... I just have nothing to cut it with or else I'd have made my own a long time ago .

I actully used my 400ex skid plate with good results... I had to modify the way I mounted plate but its was very close to the same size and shape as the YFZ.....

With the price of sheet aluminum these days it's almost cheaper just to buy one.

Diamond plate....
I know a 8x4 sheet of diamond plate is very expensive. Your best bet is find somebody that works with the stuff and get some of the scrape,,,,
Like some said in the end youe better off just buying real one.

I just had to replace a panel on one of my trailers last week. An 8x4 sheet of 1/8" aluminum last week cost me $110 and it is supposed to be more next week!!!! People who piss and moan about the price of gasoline should talk to people who have buy building materials like steel and copper. The increase in the price of oil is not even close to the increases in the price of metals.
By the way I'm an Electrical Contractor.

why not use steel? It's cheap, easy to workwith, and you could make it from thinner material so the weight gain wouldn't be much.
