Some pictures of your Predator?

If you have some pictures of your predator, I'd like to see. If you have a link to some pictures of them on another thread than you can post it here. I'm seriously thinking about one. Should there be anything I should look out for besides the stock intake?

Ya, you can get the Pred in a 440, 500, 520, 558, 574, 600 & 650 stroker. Used to have a 510 and 627 but have been discontinued. Nicholas has 587, but is not offered yet.
Mine is a 574.

yea, and the race port/polish with oversized stainless steel valves doesnt hurt, along with the intake and exhaust mods. the only thing is, on the 03's with the slightly longer swingarm, little of that power gets to the ground on anything but pavement

Those are the mxr4's and I love them. They hookup really well. As for winning and losing, I was definately not winning. I finished 16 out of 21 in this heat. I was racing beginner open class against the 450 novice guys. It was at glen helen and it gets pretty spread out there. I did grad sixth out of one of the holeshots which made me pretty happy. I was one of two preddys out there racing. The other raced against intermediate 450's and took sixth overall.

You deserve all the credit in the world for going out and racing. So many people can talk the talk but have never been on a track with other quads that were wanting to win as bad as you do.
Racing is addictive, I race every chance I get. Problem around here is not many people race quads. So when I do race they're will only be 7-15 of us, I would love to race back east where they have several heats.
Posted by: SVTPete
Luckily where i live there is ;ots of racing to be done. I had to drive nine hours to race at glen helen but it was very well worth it! I am going to try and hit up as many itp quadcross events as possible. August 13 is the next race at Glen Helen. If anyone has a chance they should check it out. It is a good time.
Posted by: kc8pnd
DieselBoy, if you get a pred you should really consider a gusset kit. I wrecked my pred for the first time and bent the frame, the quad rolled to a stop, the crash was small and it still bent just under the oil tank.
Posted by: phxccw
Can you install the gusset kit without completly dismantling the engine and everything??? Or is it just some quick welds here and there???
Posted by: kc8pnd
I am not real sure, I think you can just tip the quad on its grab bare and add most of them. There is 2 that go under your front fenders and about 6 that go at the back where the sub frame meets the main frame. I added a lot of extra welds to things, like my motor mounts and the plate under the steering stem.

a little late now, but for future reference, you can make some points weaker by welding them, gusseting is always a good idea, but simply welding factory welds or stamps can weaken the steel/aluminum/etc. good luck though.

Does anyone make a set up that gets rid of the Pro Steering system? I know it works well when it is tight but I have seen lots of problems with it wearing out prematurely and it is expensive to replace. So does anyone make just the normal set up?
Thanks, Josh
Posted by: kc8pnd
When I painted my frame my pro steering system was stiff, so I took it all apart and cleaned the bearings, the two arms have bearings in them so that makes it nice.

by chance does anyone have a straight shot of back and of their pred flipped up on the grab bar? I'm pretty sure the one I just picked up to fix is way out of whack but I dont know how the preds look. Some quads are different than others and line up differently so i figured i would ask before I tear it all apart and sell it off if need be.
Posted by: Dune Surfer
Just sold mine!! 2003 . I had no real problems with my pred. I liked the engine. Still , honestly I would not buy another one. A little to quirky. They handle strangly, jump a little nose high. The biggest downfall is the weight. If I was looking for something right now I would get a YFZ for $6000 otd (which I did!!) It is honestly a much better quad.
Posted by: lepred
much better in what respect ??? the 05-06 preds will kill a YFZ on the trail stock for stock. Have to coin out allot to get the YFZ to the standard of a Stock pred ( shocks, Axle, Wheels etc )Mine dont jump nose high..must be you
Posted by: DieselBoy
I would own a predator anyway if the price was right. Nice predators, I like the red headlight bulbs.

I got mine January 1st. I have ridden the crap out of it. I have raced it 3-4 times harescrambler and mx. Only problem I have had is one of the seat grommets smashed out and caused the seat to rub the intake tube. The dealer replaced all of the parts on warranty. I am 100% happy wiht my predator it was the perfect choice for my riding style.
Posted by: 440exnacsracer
ive had a few, i broke the origional frame, and the dealer who replaced it didnt know 100% what they were doing and screwed up a few things, so i tore it back down gusseted the frame and put it back together the way it should be. i have never had a factory engine part fail, just a wiseco piston that came apart. some of the 03s had transmission trouble, but i checked out everything when i was cleaning out peices of aluminum from the wiseco and everything looked great. the oil lines are a pain in the butt, they are too flemsy, but as long as you dont take them off, you dont have to worry about it. the rear plastic mounts also arent top notch, so plan on makings some stronger ones down the road
Posted by: jrmerk
had my '05 a little over a year now - been running harescrambles in nc since day one... no major issues outside of a few i've created, i.e. bent steering stem on a superman crash against a tree - replaced w/ hpd vs factory... in fact, would recommend replacement even prior to going thru the crash efforts... get a good after market front bumper - some body armor, nerfs and a decent slip on silencer and you should be good to go... starts first time and has plenty of power... i also put a set of razor II's on - hook up in all types of terrain - excellent... overall - don't think you can go wrong... happy trails - ride hard
Posted by: kc8pnd
Them rear plastic mounts with the S curve tube both broke on my friends 03, I welded them on the top and bottom for him. They used thicker tubing on the 05. The plastic they used for the stock fenders I think is a bit to hard. There is not enough give, so plan on a crack if you stress it to much. I am on my second frame on my 05, watch rocks and trees, the front end of my frame twisted when I hit a tree, was not moving fast at all. The air box is an issue, but with a civic intake (or bigger snorkel) and a few jets you can really bring that Fuji to life. The power is great, it seems like it never stops pulling. Was racing my friend and took off in 2nd, when I hit 3rd I heard a noise, when I looked around at the rear end I noticed teeth on my sprocket broke clean off.
Posted by: lepred
My 05 LE has been punished, rolled, rammed and slammed, but the only real trouble is 5th gear let go and destroyed 3rd etc. Ive bent A-arms steering stems snapped tie rods and idler arms and bent the buggery out of my frame but she still handles great. This thing keeps up with the best of em and I would recommend buying one if you have the moolah to mod, as stock there abit sluggish and handle a bit pooey. Depends what you want to do with it, I mainly MX now so I wont be buying another one, If i was a duner or Trailer then it cant be beat, great bike to learn on and no probs launching 80' tables with the fox podiums dialed as hard as they go.
Posted by: troyleepred719
smokinwrench.i honestly dont get what ur problem is........because its marked an 07, i called it an 07, its an 06 model, thats marked 07, because of the month in which its bought in, it really isnt that hard man.....ill say its an 06 so u dnt lose sleep..........hows that for u buddy.?

I just switched from a Predator 558 to an 06' YFZ450 w/ hot cams and, top end, the two machines are close, maybe giving a nod to the YFZ on the very top but, the Pred had it all the way for TORQUE. Of course, the Pred had a big bore. As far as overall machine to machine, the YFZ fits me better. I feel fast on it but, just needs more bottom end.
Posted by: honda450rider33
my friend with the predator said that he has seen a yfz with a athena 480 big bore get smoked by a stock outlaw. i dont think this is true because i thought the outlaw had the same top end as a predator. and when the did the comparison in dirtwheels they said the outlaw pulled a little harder than the predator. you gave me a comparison between some built machines what about stock vs stock, or maybe a pipe/filter

The Outlaw has a KTM 525 engine if he got smoke by the IRS 525 due not try the 525S it is 20 lbs lighter
Posted by: honda450rider33
i will be the first person to say that there is no way that a stock outlaw beat a 480 yfz. like i said the stock outlaws are just a litttle faster out of the hole than the predator they are the same on top.and a 480 yfz will smoke a stock predator and the outlaws the old ones i am not sure about the new ones, are a 510 not a 525 so it is not that much faster.

You need to quit accepting DirtWheels as factual media.
This is probably where your friend saw the Outlaw outrun the 480. Stock Outlaw vs. YFZ 480 Although the YFZ did have a "fat kid" on it.
How much ride time on both machines are you basing the Outlaw is just a little quicker out of the hole and the same on top from??? I would have to disagree, I have both machines and the KTM 510 pulls harder all the way through the revs than the Fuji 499 stock vs stock.
Anyway back to the thread theme!

Today while i was out riding the wire coming from the fan that screws into the radiator(one on each side) got a little break in it and my fan stopped working....had to limp home with steam and antifreeze starting to cme from the rad. and than fool aruond with everything to figure out what it was, easy fix just cut and twisted the wires together until i get a new one, other than that its a great bike imo

I took some camera phone pictures today while i was out at a sandpit i ride to from my house....there are none in the sandpit but there used to be an old blueberry farm there, and the pictures are by(or in) some of the old buildings back there.
