Leonardtown, MD - ATV Motocross Racer have flocked to the southern tip of Maryland this weekend for Round #5 of the ATVA National Motocross Series, and the parking lot is packed with trailers and motor homes, which means attendance for the events appears to be up from last year without any official numbers as of yet.
The weather for the weekend is forecasted to be perfect for racing with temps in the 70’s and chance for some desperately needed rain in Maryland as this is the driest March on record, so a rain shower should help with the dust.
The Budds Creek track is like a roller coaster ride with constant elevation changes as the track is almost like a big bowl with track zigzagging its way up and down the hillside, and it is one long track at easily over 1.5 miles long. Besides the hills, there are some fairly large table top jumps and a huge up hill double, which only the Pros have attempted this weekend.

A view of the other side of the track

While "G-Money" Flagger soaks up the sun, this amateur rider took to flight on his Honda as the two table tops in the valley send the riders easily over 15 feet high into the air before landing over 60+ feet on the downside of the tabletop if all goes well.
Posted by: Admin
The current points leader and National Champion, John Natalie Jr took to flight on his first lap practice over the first of two table tops back to back with a 90 degree turn in between this dynamic pair
Posted by: Admin
Upon landing, Natalie Jr snapped his axle which sent his tire springing back up into the air as john skidded to a stop.
Posted by: Admin
The expression on his face says it all as he asked himself, why can’t RPM provide me with Dominator 2 Axles instead of the regular Dominator Axles? I told his mechanic, Dee, that he needs to step up his program to get the premium axles, lol
Posted by: Admin
Anybody want a spare Maxxis tire and Douglas wheel, but the axle stub and hub is not included.

After a disappointing Echeconnee, #270 Josh Creamer was planning on putting in some Motos to prepare for Budds Creek, and he looked really comfortable in Practice.
Posted by: Admin
The Canadian, Richard Pelchat had his worst weekend of racing in his career at Echeconnee after one misfortune after another, and he is hoping his bad luck is behind him at Budds Creek.
He definitely looked confident as he was the first Pro to attempt the massive up hill double at the end of the first practice section
Posted by: Admin
Pelchat launching the uphill double while a crowd of Pros gather to watch and learn as they begin lining up to make their attempt at the uphill monster.

Kory Ellis can't wait till this weekend is over as he has never had any luck at Budds Creek, but it didn't seem to slow him down during practice.
Posted by: Admin
Gil Attix made the short drive from Delaware to compete in his first Pro Race of the 2006 season after sitting out the first 4 rounds of the series.
Posted by: Admin
Joe Haavisto finally has received a full clothing deal from Fly Racing, so we no longer have to takes bets or wagers on the brand gear he will show up with in practice or for the Pro Race, and with the lime green gear really stood out from the crowd.
Posted by: Admin
Joe Haavisto was also sporting a new hood from Generation X this weekend, which I thought was pretty slick looking on the 450R

Look at the love “Byrds” waiting to head out for practice
Posted by: Admin
Paul Turner was offered 1 Million Dollars not to say another word between now and Sunday, and he was really thinking hard about whether to take up the offer, which ofcourse he turned down after a few seconds, lol.
I am sure that I will hear and earfull for posting this one, lol

It didn't take Keith Little long to start using Tireballs after flat tire in Florida cost him some valuable points, and he talks with Wade at Tireballs about how the balls are working for him.
Posted by: Admin
Donny Banks made the 12 hour trip up for Georgia to help Jonathan Beasley with preparing the track this weekend, and it looks like they were both having a good time.

Too only be a kid again!

Thinking of kids, they were also grabbing some huge air over the table tops today.

Ethan Straney launching like a Pro
Posted by: Admin
Cam Covil's practice was cut short when he experienced engine issues, which will have his dad making a engine swap before the 1st Moto on Saturday.
Posted by: Admin
David Nevrotski taking a look over the track during his practice, which is what many of the Pros do during practice. Instead of blitzing the whole track it is smart to take a good look at certain section for possible different lines for passing during the race.

There seems to be more and more Suzuki LT-R450 machines popping up at the races as more and more riders are beginning to make the switch to the new Suzuki QuadRacer
Posted by: Admin
Lost Creek Cycles Jeff Thompson signed autographs with Jason Dunkelberger on Thursday at Ray Wilt in Hanover, PA, and just like Dunk, he plans on making the switch to the Suzuki in the near future
Posted by: Admin
Natalie Jr wasn't alone in snapping axles, as Thomas Brown joined the club after landing on the same table top jump
Posted by: Admin
Less than a second later, he skids to a stop
Posted by: Admin
ATVriders.com Member, Pred or Prey (Ken Stanka), made the switch from GNCC racing last weekend to a little motocross this weekend, and he plans on going to the Big Buck GNCC next weekend.

Well folks, I am finished for tonight, and I will provide more updates tomorrow night along with Day One Results.
Posted by: Admin
Well, today was one long day with practice starting at 8AM with the LCQ races lasting to dusk, and they wil still need to run several more yet tomorrow morning to narrow down the classes for the 20 rider second Motos.
The first race out of the gate today was the Pro AM Production Class Heat 1 immediately followed by Heat 2
The battle for the Holeshot was between Cale Downen and Matt White
Posted by: Admin
Jesse Sheaffer held the inside line and was out near the front for the start of the race
Posted by: Admin
The start of Heat 2 had John Natalie Jr grabbing the Holeshot. He decided to signup for Pro Am Production after he snapped his axle in practice on Saturday
Posted by: Admin
Hot on the heals of Natalie Jr was Jason Dunkelberger followed by Thomas Hager.
Posted by: Admin
Brock Lyons flipped on his lid while Rodney Gentry was spun around backwards on the start of the Heat 2.
Posted by: Admin
Matt While took over the lead from Cale Downen with Hunter Miller moving into 3rd Place before he would wreck, which left him with a broken femur, which now has both the Miller Brothers out for most likely the remainder of the season since Cody broke his leg in Florida.
We wish the Miller’s a speedy recovery
Posted by: Admin
Cale Downen would take back over the lead followed by Matt White
Posted by: Admin
John Natalie would lead the first lap, but then he let off and allowed Josh Upperman to pass him for the lead as they played cat and mouse around the track.
Natalie Jr's mechanic, Dee, was sweating bullets because he was originally only planning on him doing a lap or two, and he didn't want him to stress the engine for the Main on Sunday, but obviously John was having too much fun to pull off.
Josh Upperman does a look back on Natalie Jr over the huge step up known as the "Big Gulp"
Posted by: Admin
Matt White would regain the lead and take the win over Cale Downen in Heat One. Cale was launching up the “Big Gulp”, but in the Main he would snap his axle on the jump, which gave him a DNF.
Josh Upperman would win the Heat 2 closely followed by John Natalie Jr.
Posted by: Admin
Heather Byrd easily took the win in the Women's Production Class with Angela Butler on Vacation and Alex Kirchner out with a broken Arm.
Posted by: Admin
Michelle Resier was back in action, but she is still not 100%, but she was able to make the pass Jamie Luburgh to finish in 2nd Place
Posted by: Admin
Candace Lee took the Win in Women's Sport on her way to yet another Motocross Overall
Posted by: Admin
Melissa Walker finished 8th in the Women's Sport on a very unique looking 250R
Posted by: Admin
Nicholas F. Moser took the win in the 71cc-90 Production Sr in his Heat with Bren Marra winning the other Heat
Posted by: Admin
Before I knew it, it was time for Pro Practice at Noon.
Keith Little throwing some roost.
Posted by: Admin
Pro Rookie, Rocco Arno Jr was looking to make yet another Pro Main Event.
Posted by: Admin
Travis Spader is hoping for just a little better luck this weekend
Posted by: Admin
911 Steve Runkel was wishing for some better luck when he cased the step up which split open the inside of his lip, which left him watching the rest of practice, and he will most likely need stitches, ouch!!!
Posted by: Admin
Tavis Cain had another good race in Georgia as he is off to a great start in 2006
Posted by: Admin
Gil Attix was looking to qualify this weekend, but it was obvious in practice that he wasn't ready to jump right back into Pro after missing the first few races of the season
Posted by: Admin
Jason Luburgh was skying the step up with ease, and if he can only keep it together for two Motos, I expect to see him on the Podium this year
Posted by: Admin
Pat Brown went through all his shock travel landing the “Big Gulp”
Posted by: Admin
Pro Qualifier
Pat Brown would grab the Holeshot with his DASA Engine followed by Tim Farr and Richard Pelchat
Posted by: Admin
Josh Upperman and Harold Goodman rounded out the top 5
Posted by: Admin
Pat Brown dropped back to 3rd with Tim Farr taking over the lead followed by Richard Pelchat
Posted by: Admin
Chad Wienen moved his way up to 6th place after a bad start, but he was quickly charging his way through the pack as he moved in on Jason Luburgh
Posted by: Admin
Jeremiah Jones had issues out of the gate and was just cruising around the track as he knew that he would be heading to the LCQ
Posted by: Admin
Several laps later, Tim Farr remained in the lead with Pat Brown moving back into 2nd place with Chad Wienen apply the pressure after making the pass on Richard Pelchat.
Posted by: Admin
The battle was on for the final qualifying spot with Rocco Arno Jr and Trent kandel
Posted by: Admin
Travis Spader and Josh Creamer were at the rear of the pack, and they would be heading to the LCQ
Posted by: Admin
A few laps later, Chad Wienen had taken over the lead after working his way up through the pack in one impressive charge to the front
Posted by: Admin
Like a train, the rest of the Pros remained bunch together with Chad Wienen in the lead followed by Tim Farr, Richard Pelchat, Harold Goodman, Jason Luburgh, Pat Brown, and Rocco Arno Jr in the final qualifying position and closely followed by Trent Kandel
Posted by: Admin
Chad Wienen would take the win with the rest of the class remaining the same except for Harold Goodman making the pass on Richard Pelchat to take over third.
Posted by: Admin
Pro LCQ
Jeremiah Jones would put his Suzuki LTR450 out front with the Holeshot, and he would be on a mission the entire moto
Posted by: Admin
By the end of the 1st lap, Jones already held a several second lead over Josh Creamer and Travis Spader battling for the second spot with only the top three heading to the Main
Posted by: Admin
Jeremiah Jones would go on to the easy win
Posted by: Admin
Travis Spader would pull away from Josh Creamer to finish in second place with Creamer taking the final qualifying spot for the Main.
Posted by: Admin
Gil Attix wouldn't make the Pro Main, so it will be seen if he signs up for the Pro Am Unlimited race today.
Now that the stage is set for the Pro Main, I am going to head out and capture the racing action this Sunday Morning, and check back at 12PM for some live updates of the Pro 1st Moto.
