On the 7th of April i'm going on a 5 day 1000 mile trip through Africa with my LTR (but so is 500 other bikers & Quad riders).
Staring in the northern parts of South Africa we will follow dirt roads west, through Namibia, to the west coast. Will then spend a few days playing in the desert.
This will be a good test for this all new Quadracer. Will keep you all posted if I encounter any problems with my LTR...
give me a shout if you want more info on this trip...

Thats awesome. Ive been to Africa twice once when i was 14 and once when i was 17 to kenya tanzania and south africa always thought it would be a cool place to ride. never saw any quads while i was there though.

I went to africa once...didnt care too much for it though. I went to Djibouti, and Ethiopia...but I wish I had my Quad, saw some cool terrian. But I couldnt...I was there for a military operation.

Thats Africa?
i never thought that it would be like that. I was thinking safaris with elephants and giraffes running around. Looks like Glamis

Man that is beautiful thats gotta cost some serious cash to bring your bike there.

Actually Africa is just like any other country. There is plenty of desert but there are really nice, areas also that have plenty of trees, wildlife, etc. etc, etc. Spent a few years running around Africa while I was in the military. Tunisa actually has a lot of desert when you get near the southern boarder. In many places it's desert as far as the eye can see with nothing but sand (very orange and as fine as powdered sugar). We would go out on camel patrols for days at a time and man was it hot.

check on your world map, this is the Namib desert on the west coast of Namibia. Yes its a desert = dry, but the rest of africa is green.
I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. So not THAT bad to get there, but still a 4000 mile round trip.
here some more pics of the trip...

no problems.
Looses alot of power at 6000ft, but back at the coast it was fine again.

To be expected. At 6000ft it would probably be running very rich.

the latest Toyota avail in South Africa. Most of you still think South Africa is like 'dark Africa'. Currently among the top economies in the world. What a great place to live... and theres no animals in the streets OK!!
check out pic of my middleclass hood, ocean just off the picture.

That changes my view of africa totally.

Scooter, have you ever ridden the dunes @ Sossusvlei? I know there are some monster dunes over there 500-1000 ft high. How far is that from where you live in S. Africa? More pics, please.
Posted by: ScooterBike
Sossusvlei is close to where we were riding, see pics above, but u cannot ride at Sossusvlei. same size dunes. the 1 on the photo is suposed to be the 7th highest natural sand dune in the world. The photo doesnt do it justice.
I live about 1100 miles away...

SCOOTERBIKE, looks like theres alot of people there did you all go togather or is that a normal weekend there? I'm drooling right now I love the dunes!!
Posted by: ScooterBike
its an anual SOCIAL event and there were +-700 bike & quads.
Posted by: ScooterBike
due to the large area you cannot see all the bikes but they are there... somewhere. the last pics only show a small area.
There was a helicopter to see that no one gets lost in the desert.
Most of you know what the performance of the LTR is like. I run racing gas, 13 sprocket 20" R, no lid & sparcky (@ sea level). Just to give you an idea, I hit the base of that big dune full throttle in 4th going straight up and just make it to the top in 2nd.

Depending on the amount of change in atmospheric pressure. You would have to adjust yourself.
The fuel injection system(at least the Cannondale system) will adjust, but not A LOT.

Who makes those trailers with the tent? Very cool!
Posted by: nozerider
There's suburbs in Africa?
You learn something everyday.
Posted by: 450rJam
I would like to know where I can get a trailer like that also
Posted by: ScooterBike
those trailers are all 'home build'. Each owner custom build his trailer the way he wants it. No 2 are the same.
Posted by: 450rJam
Im sure there is a purpose for the tent being up in the air but what is it ? to keep lions out ? lol j/k
it wouldnt take up as much space, no need for tent stakes, and prob. keep out snakes, scorpions etc. out.
maybe to keep off hot sand ?
Posted by: ScooterBike
the tents just fold open, takes 2min. its off the ground so always clean from dirt.
Posted by: 450rJam
thats sweet and very good idea, that last pic looks like its an aluminum trailer.
Posted by: 370kingR
So no pet Lama's?? I heard there are scorpian circuses out there.....
I really does look nice over there. Great pictures Scooter.
Who ever said that the fuel injection will correct itself is dead wrong. In no way does it change the amount of fuel delivery on its own due to any kind of condition. Ill bet my eye balls on it

nice quad first of all mate
secondly how do you like those razr2s , really thinking about them for desert racing , do they run smooth at top speed on a flat surface or do they wobble like crazy like the holeshots
also seeing as you already have 20s on the rear , how does it pull them in the soft stuff and do you reckon the ltr can pull 22s on the rear comfortably with the stock gear ratios??
cheers mate
seb
Posted by: ScooterBike
I do alot of endurace racing, our races are all between 80km up to 400km and usualy mountain terrain.
the razr2 are great, will not use anything else. Runs smooth at high speed (120km/h). The 22" is a tight fit behind the heel guards. It gets a bit heavy on the stock gear ratio but adds alot of speed (maybe what you need). The 20" is my favourate. Its not to heavy and if flat you can still ride fast. Still use stock gears for the 20" but change to 13t front if its a tight course, slows you down and adds alot of power.
I would recommend Razr2 22"& 20" f&r imo, stock ratio +- 115km/h, with 13t +-107km/h. A 15t doesnt fit unless you cut away a bit of the chain gide.
Hope this helps...
