ok i just got a 400ex, and im takin the plastic off to do something, how do you get those little black plastic things out? i cant figure it out......

I use a flat head screwdriver and insert it in those slots and pull up. Then the whole plug should pull out. Make sure when you are putting them back in that the top piece is pulled out before you insert them back in.

Yeah, I found it was even easier using 2 screwdrivers at once in the slots. Just pull steady and easy, and those plastic fasteners will pop out.

i used a wire cutter plyer thing, it works alot better than screw drivers, but dont actualy cut them

I am wondering if there is an easier setup, so we can get rid of those darn hard to separate, slotted, use a dang big screwdriver, pull real hard, Oh crap I just cut my finger, plugs.....

I love those plugs! Dont have to worry about them falling out, can take em off with the stuff in your tool kit, and they look better then a bolt.
