Just thought everyone might wanna see some pictures of my project. This is my first quad, going into second season riding, and very first time working on a quad at all. Anyways, just wanted to throw some pics up and show off my work. If anyone has any suggestions. Please feel free to chime in and give me ideas. Thanks for looking. Here is last year's pic, before I started all the work, uh, fun, yeah fun that's it.
Posted by: james7734
Ok, picture didn't post. Anyone know how. Tried to find a forum that said how, but couldn't find one.

your welcome
Posted by: james7734
I tried that but it never came through. I think I have it figured out though. I had to resize the picture to a smaller size.

bingo
Posted by: james7734
So here goes. First, all the old crap had to off. Then I had to replace some stock stuff and then go with some aftermarket stuff. Also, some of the stuff is basic because I have 3 kids and can't afford most of the expensive stuff.
Check out the axle carrier. The machine came with the lonestar carries and man are those bearings huge. I am waiting to get the bearings in from Lonestar. Should have them tuesday.
Posted by: james7734
Man, were those clutch plates worn. No wonder the clutch was dragging. Dang thing moved everytime I tried to start it up.
Posted by: james7734
It's a wonder these front wheels didn't slice into the side wall of the tire when I was jumping it last year.
Posted by: james7734
Ha, the junk box. All the old parts in the box until I decide to either sell them or hang on them for spare parts.
Posted by: james7734
Ugly old cracked plastics! EEWW!!
Posted by: james7734
Ok, on to the new stuff!
New front bumper. Love the color.
Posted by: james7734
Oh yeah, notice the 400ex front shock in the bumper picture. 400ex front shocks, what a difference I can feel even before I ride it.
Posted by: james7734
Brand new Durablue Eliminator axle +2 or +4. Already have +2 Laeger A-arms. Not sure if I am going to go full width. I think I only want to stay as wide as the front wheels so I don't catch a tree at full speed. Ouch, that would hurt ALOT!!
Posted by: james7734
Brand new FMF heat shield. THis thing didn't even have the stock one on it when I bought. Burnt my leg like a hundred times last year.
Posted by: james7734
Didn't even have heel guards, so I had to buy the whole assmebly. Luckily, I found a guy with the whole set for like $20. Couldn't refuse that one. Heel guards cleaned up real nice.
Posted by: james7734
New battery. This one was taller, so had to manufacture a bracket.
Posted by: james7734
New front wheels. I feel a lot safer with these. They are just stock replacments. I put the money elsewhere.
Posted by: james7734
New handguards. Thank you to my BMX sponsors who also sell some ATV/MX parts for those.
Posted by: james7734
New gripper seat cover. The old one was all tore up. Can't have that!!
Posted by: james7734
New 2001 Yamaha Raptor rear shock with the new shock cover already on it. I have matching ones for the front too, but I am not with the front yet.
Posted by: james7734
New flames graphic kit for the new plastics when I get them. They are supposed to be coming tomorrow. Let me know if you think the flames are cheesy.
Posted by: james7734
I can't wait until I get all the parts in and get it all put together.
Above everything, I owe a huge THANK YOU to the guy that got me into riding and is helping me a lot with this project. His name is Justin. He rides the best looking Yamaha Warrior 350 I have seen yet. I am sure when he sees this post he will throw a picture on here of it. He is always razzing me about riding a Honda. Just wanted to say thank to him for ALL his help.
Let me know what you guys think of my project so far. I will keep posting picturesa and updates as I go. I am hoping to be done here in the next couple of weeks.
Posted by: ZeroLogic
What are future mods you plan on adding on to your 300? I'd clean up that frame and motor real nice. I really like that bumper too. Keep us updated!
Posted by: james7734
Plan on cleaning everything up all at once. Next year's winter project is to make the frame stuff look brand new. Paint and all that. This year's plan was to make it rideable. I had a lot of trouble with it last year. I couldn't even make a turn with out it trying to roll on me. This year is to have fun. Next year, I will complete the project all together. Not that we are ever done with them.
Future mods: I might go with a werks suspension next year. I also would like to find a way to put a larger motor in it. I keep hearing all about putting a 350x or a 400ex motor in them, but not sure I want to do all that fabrication work. I would also like to lower, but the guys I ride with say that is a bad idea, since I weigh like 300 pounds. Not sure. Thought lowering it would make it handle better, but I don't want to bottom out though. Anyway, those are the plans.
Posted by: Sjorge300EX
is that a motor in the junk box??? lol
Posted by: james7734
Yes and No. It is just a bottom end. The case was cracked when I bought the machine. Didn't see the crack until after I rode it a couple times.
Posted by: Blue250X
i like teh hearts on your tires
lol
Posted by: james7734
not hearts. Rats. The name of the tires are rats. Thanks Alot!!
Posted by: kyleschonert
what kind of exhaust are you running? i have a DG Krome power one for sale. I also have some stock parts layin around if you need anything, let me know.
Posted by: BlasterEaten250
looks like its going good, what color plastics are you going to get?
Posted by: james7734
Hey kyleschonert! email me with a price. jmolyneaux@earthlink.net
Let me know, I might be interested.
Hey BlasterEaten250!! I am getting the new maier 450r look alike plastics in red. Actually I got them tonight. I don't have all the brackets completely mounted yet but they look hot. I will take a picture after we get the graphics on. I am not sure if I am actually going to go with the graphics I already got or go with custom graphics. I am starting to think the ones I got look a little cheesy. Thanks for asking.
Posted by: drifterx
I like what you're doing with it! I love those enjoy graphics, all my buddies had them on their kawasaki 125's before they got custom made graphics. Glad they finally make them for a 300!
Posted by: james7734
Thanks DrifterX. I am not sure if the graphics will fit on the new plastics. We are going to try and play with them this weekend. The plastics are 450r look alikes, which is why I am not sure if the graphics will fit.

No problem!
I'm sure they'll fit just fine. A little trimming might be in order, but it can't be that far off if it is.
Posted by: 300ex#5
lets see some pics of the 450R styled plastics i want to get some but i want to see what it looks like 1st..thanks!
Posted by: james7734
Hopefully, I can get the graphics on this weekend. Once I get the graphics on I'll post a pic so everyone can see.
Tonight , I got the axle in and mounted up ready to go. After looking at the rear axle and eyeballing the front wheels I noticed that the a-arms are completely off center. I think it is just a ball joint adjustment. I'll check it out next week.
I also ran into putting new gaskets on my case covers. They were leaking oil pretty badly. Anyway, I'll post pics of the plastics once I get the graphics on.
Posted by: james7734
Alright, I got the pictures of the plastics. I am almost there.
Posted by: james7734
Another one
Posted by: james7734
And a left profile view.

Posted by: james7734
Yes, 400ex front end and a Raptor rear shock. Totally upgraded suspension.
Thanks about the plastics. They really do look hot. I can't wait to see the graphics on them. Later!

Just wanted to update everyone. Today I got the front sprocket back on. Someone welded it on to the bottom end I bought. When I got done shaving the weld, I found out why. The teeth that wold the clip on the holds the sprocket were completely gone. So I had to drill and tap the gear shaft and use some washers with a bolt. That was the answer we came up with. I'll put a picture of it on here when I get the quad back. Right now it is over to my friends house. We started to put all the graphics and the sponsor sticker on it tonight. Not to mention we found out that some of the aluminum on it polishes up real nice. I post pictures on here for you all to see. Anyway, just wanted to update you guys on my progress.

That is one of the hottest looking 300EXs I've ever seen. Nice job.
Posted by: james7734
KRT400EX, thank you very much. It's comments like that that make all the work worth it. Thanks again.
Posted by: james7734
oopps! Forgot to give props to the one who gave me the most help in making my ride so much different this year. His name is Justin otherwise known as rfmracing on the yfm350central web site. Check his quad out in the pictures section.
Posted by: kyleschonert
very nice rebuild there. I enjoyed reading all of what you planned to put on it and it looks like it was well worth it. That thing looks great. Now lets see some action pics.

nice bike. I have a question about your 14t front sprocket. I have a 14t on mine too. I am getting a case saver (should be here tomorow) and I am going to just use a 13t this weekend so that I dont ahve to mess with grinding the saver down. Now here is the question, do you have grind marks on your casing were the chain could touch the motor? Cause i just noticed that when I was in the garage. Just wondering.
Posted by: james7734
Thanks Kyle! I'll get some action pics up as soon I can get some riding done and get all the adjustments made.
Sjorge, I haven't noticed any marks but I will look after a couple of rides and let you know.
Posted by: Ryanwolfe911
Those grind marks only get there from someone removing the case saver and having the chain come loose. On that subject though, I have had my chain fly off and even with the case saver in place, it just ripped the case saver right off the engine, along with the bosses it was mounted to. I wish someone would make a good case saver for the 300ex. Seems like every other quad inthe world has a good aftermarket replacement.

Hey guys! Just wanted to trow up a picture of my frined's Warrior. This is where I have gotten my inspiration from. I think you will see why my quad looks a good as it does. Anyway, the picture speaks for itself.

selling it so soon????
Posted by: james7734
Yeah, I want a bigger machine. I actually fell in love with a Warrior and I need money to buy it.
Posted by: nitroracer1990
How do the 400ex shocks fit in the 300ex? What Mods do you have to do?
Posted by: james7734
you need a shock bracket from diamondjcustoms.com and you either need 400ex a-arms or i actually have +2 Laeger a-arms. Other than that everything bolts right up. If you want a pic I can put one up for you.

A stock 300EX is faster than a warrior. Get a 400EX they have more power. Not a warrior.
Posted by: james7734
There is no way a stock 300ex is faster than this warrior. I have ridden both machines.
Posted by: PolarisRider
what coor red is that maier?
Posted by: james7734
It is the fighting red! I love the color.
Posted by: bansheerider4
or you could just do some engine mods.....JMO
