A friend of mine has a z400. Every time he hits the gas it bogs down really bad. Does anyone know about this?

Does it do it when you first start it? If it does than you need to let it warm up.

It could also be as simple as the breather hose on the gas tank may be partially clogged . When you cant get enough air into the tank to replace the gas goin out it can vapor lock, stall, or cough and splutter.

Thanks guys. Also when he lets it idle it will idle really high , then he taps on the carb and the idle comes down to normal. Anything for that? Thanks in advance.

There should be an idle screw/knob on the the carb that sets your base idle rpms... if that screw is stuck it could be causing it espescially since you say when he taps on it it stops... or the butterfly valve in the carb itslef is sticking

Some Z's have a problem with the vaccum when the gas gets below a certain point. Try the petcock on PRI and see if it works better. Mine does that sometimes and I don't know why.
