'05/'05 definitely. buy evans coolant or an aluminum clutch cover & water pump cover before riding.

'05 and ditch the clutch cover for an aluminum one asap.

I heard they went back to the '04 cams in '06 and are using a bsr36mm carb instead of the 37mm on the '05 but I cant say thats from a reliable source.

i found brand new 95 for 4999, i am thinking about it. What is wrong with the clutch cover/ water pump cover, does it not flow enough to cool the motor down?

tell me how why do you say that? the 05 400ex are alot slower then the previous models,abd if the previous models before couldnt beat a z then how could they now? i hate when people come on here and dont get there **** striaght

To my knowledge 05/06 are the exact same in the engine/frame/suspension/plastic/nuts+bolts/wheels+tires Etc. Everything EXCEPT the Stickers and seat color(on the yellow)

my friends 05 ex is faster than my other friends 04 z, but he realized suz-uki's suck so he got a 250R.

i didnt know suzukis suck hmm that must be new. i gess some could be beet on and not taken care of and there for any quad like that would suck but i know for a fact that my dads z400 could keep up to a 450r. i seen it. i just dont know the motor mods but it ant stock. as for all running and driving z400's they all can make a 400ex look like a blaster compared to top speed.

I really like my 03 z-400 Ive had two 03s now and both have outlasted many of my friends quads from Honda, Yamaha, Cannondale/ATK, and many other brands... These suzuki quads are super reliable and I think are some of the toughest out there.... Im sure there are lemons but that dosent mean the whole bunch is rotten by any means

I may have to call bs on a z400 even with mods keeping up with a 450r unless there where some really unfavorable odds on it, where they racing in reverse ? that would make the z400 alot faster.

"440exking" your full of it. I have yet to see a ex even compare to the z. And as for the Z keeping up to a 450r, It definatley depends on skill. I don't care if you have a 500 stroker, if you can't ride you WILL be beat.
