i just pulled the coolant pump cover off my kfx and im p'oed. the coolant ate away and corroded the hole where the coolant goes in the engine. When i pulled the cover off, it wouldnt come completely off. sumthin was holding it from coming off and the cover was wiggling around. did i mess ne thing up? i couldnt tell, when i was pullin it off some cylinder lookin thing inside it wouldnt detach from inside the eninge. also, not to ask a stupid question (ive never had a liquid cooled quad) where to i put my new evans coolant in at? do i take the radiator cap off and fill it or to i fill the plastic tank on the left side? thanks in advance guys. heres a pic of the corrosion:

Fill the radiator. Put a little in at a time until it is full. Then slowly squeeze the hoses to get the air our. Once it looks good (topped off) put the cap on and start it. Let it run for a few seconds and shut it off. Recheck and fill as needed.

aight thanks...do u know what im talkin bout with the pulling the cover off thing? i know theres a pump inside the unit im just hoping i didnt do ne thing to it...all i did was try to pull it off

Hard to tell what might have happened when you pulled it off but that picture does not look good. You may need to pull the side case off to check to see what other damage may have been done.

If you are still under warranty I would take it back to the dealer.

After looking again at the picture you have some issues. Is that the case or the water pump housing in the picture? If it the water pump housing it will need to be replaced.

im not under warranty thats what sucks @$$. i got my kfx in june and i didnt find out about the corrosion problems till about a month ago. its run fine and the corrosion hasnt gone far enough to do damage yet, form what it looks like.

ummmmm its on the right side to the right of the clutch cover. i think its the water pump housing. why do u say it will need to be replaced?

Posted by: huffdaddy_400EX

It looks like the metal has been eaten away in places. Those little pieces will be floating around and could lead to bigger issues down the line. If it was me I would replace it.

I know over at z400central they have started a petition for a recall of the 05/06 models. You may want to check that out.

yeah ive already signed it 3 times under 3 different names lol.

you better check the clutch cover also. i gaurentee its corroded to.

Posted by: HondaRider250

how would the clutch cover be corroded? does the coolant run through that area?

Posted by: HondaRider250
