and is it true the 2003s have bad transmissions? what is that er problem with er?

Posted by: Predatorman500
I paid 3450 for my 04 predator which i thought i got a very good deal. And yes i have heard of 03's having troubles
Posted by: DieselBoy
what exactly is wrong with the transmission itself?

they are a diecent tranny. as long as you dont abuse them. use your clutch and youll be fine. they do make a update kit for them if that is an option. there is many guys runnin the stock 03 tranny with BUILT motors and not having problems.

A buddy bought his 04 with nerfs for 3500.....and my 03 is still shifting like brand new. I do use the clutch almost every time I can.....and I don't shift on the gas too hard either.....and I've got a decent built motor pushing on this tranny...

They are affordable and their different from the rest. I have a 400EX currently.i hate the fact that the 400ex is air cooled...

My brother in-law just bought a 04' TLD for 3200 and it was only ridden around 2 hours. The guy got it and the same day went to jail and it was sitting in his moms garage, the guy is still in jail and his brother sold it for him!

hey do u have a s/n so i can ask u some questions about them.

naw man i dont have a screen name, but you can pm if you want!

03's are going for around $2700 right now. Predators hold resale value terribly.
The 03's had weak trannys as well as frames. The tranny is not an issue as long as you change your oil every 15-20hrs and ALWAYS use your clutch. I believe this is the key to the life of the trannys. Polaris designed it to be shifted WITH the clutch.

yeah just use the clutch and you will be fine! i have never heard anything about weak frames
i could be wrong though! i can attest that my 05 TLD is so incredibly beedy it is almost OVERKILL on durabillity!
Posted by: Bradracer18
Frames were weak on the 03's and 04's.....especailly on the 03's. This would be why Rath has the frame gusset kits available.
Posted by: wolffie
^^^ i was unware of that! thanks for informing me!
like i said, i havent had any problems on my 05!
Posted by: Bradracer18
no problemo...learn something everyday eh.....but yeah, they had weak frames, in spots, and Rath came out with a kit that you could weld in gusset plates on the weak spots. Mainly the mx'ed frames broke, mine is still in great shape.....

hey man, how do you like your high performance piston? is that standard bore or bigger?
what type of performance did you notice, and has it affected your reliabillity at all! thanks
Posted by: Bradracer18
I like it....I think it might have made a tad more power, but not much. With the ported head, that is where the power shows. It is stock bore. I actually think they are more reliable, due to a stronger piston, but you also are running a high compression. I have to run mixed gas now too....I run 110/92 octane, mixed at 60% - 40%.
If you want performance, I'd put some serious thought into the NC carb mods, and the twin air filter. That is where your power comes from....it makes the pred a whole new machine.....also, a rath header wouldn't hurt either of us.....
