Devore, CA – The ATVA MX Nationals are set to begin with practice starting today at Glen Helen for over 400 entries and possibly reaching the 500 mark by tomorrow morning.

The LT-R450 was released to the public just in time to be an eligible machine to compete on in the opening round of the motocross nationals, and Doug Gust & Jeremiah Jones were busy making their final adjustments. Also, several media publications were signing up their test riders to compete in this weekend’s event. Unfortunately, I scratched myself from this list, which allowed a local ATV racer to be able to acquire the Blingstar Nerf Bars from my Quadracer, which are required to race along with a kill-cord. These two add-ons are all that is required to prepare a Suzuki LT-R450 to race in the Nationals.

Posted by: Admin

Team Suzuki/Yoshimura Sponsor, Blingstar, produced the aluminum products from race team including the mandatory nerfbars. Blingstar’s own Freddie Sheppard was on hand to make sure everything was running smoothly for the Suzuki Team and their lineup of ATVs prepared for the media to race this weekend.

Posted by: Admin

The Suzuki crew of mechanics was kept busy prepping the QuadRacers for the Media.

Posted by: Admin

Doug Morris, ATVA President, even took a spin on the new Suzuki LT-R450 QuadRacer on the Back Track at Glen Helen, and I must say that I was surprised how well he rode, and he even wasted no time doubling a few of the jumps on the track

Posted by: Admin

The opening round attracted racers from all over the USA and even some racers from other countries including Canadian Pro Champion Richard Pelchat and even Luke Beechey from the down under. Also, in attendance was Richard Cole and some of his riders from the United Kingdom.

Posted by: Admin

Some ATV Racers may not have traveled as far, but they sure had to improvise to make it to the event, which is what I call determination!

Posted by: Admin

The Pits around the track were filling up and many relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful weather with temps in the 80's and it is expected to remain this way for the entire weekend, which is a welcome change from last year.

Posted by: Admin

The Pro Class has 28 Entries and the Pro Am Production has a huge 37 entries.

Many riders switched to different machines from last year, and Tavis Cain was yet another as he showed up with a Honda 450R

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr was busy dialing in his Honda as well, and with HMF's Hans making the trip out from Ohio to install John Natalie's Signature Series Exhaust.

Posted by: Admin

Tire Balls, Wade Summers, was also in attendance showing off his new MX Tire Balls, which John Natalie Jr will be racing this weekend. Also, Tire Balls is offering arider contigency program to all ATVA MX Racers, so be sure to visit their website for more details because riders that haven't even purchased Tire Balls yet are eligible to receive Tire Ball Bucks just for signing up for the program.

visit www.tireballs.com for more details

Elka Suspension will be on hand at all the ATVA MX Nationals and the GNCC Series with its support trailer to offer FREE service work to all its customers regardless if you race Pro or in the Amateur ranks, Elka will be on hand to provide a helping hand in getting you to the front of the pack

Shock technician, Sam, was busy today assisting customers.

Posted by: Admin

Elka’s new support manager will be none other than Jay Gobel as he will now be traveling to both the MX and XC Nationals for Elka, but don’t worry, Jay is also still actively involved with Maxxis, but Jeff will now be driving the Maxxis Rig for Jay Goebel.

More details on this transition for Jay Gobel and the Elka Support Rig will be released shortly.

Posted by: Admin

Also, the MX Nationals will once again be aired on Television on the OLN Channel, and none other than Johnny Gallagher made the trip out to California to watch the race with his good friend Bill Ballance.

Ofcourse he was available for comment, but he conveniently forgot to wear his pink skirt to the race this weekend

Posted by: Admin

Michelle Reiser practiced today, but she could barely walk after blowing out her knee in Texas a couple of weeks ago, and she will most likely required surgery. Also, Josh Creamer reportedly broke his wrist recently and will not be competing this weekend, which was another huge disappointment, and I wish these pair a speedy recovery

Until Tomorrow

Posted by: Admin

With over 30 Pro Entries, there were two Pro Qualifiers and a LCQ to narrow the Pro field down to 20 riders.

In the first LCQ, there was a pileup in the first turn, which involved Donald Lysinger, Jeremy Lawson, and Trent Kandel

Posted by: Admin

Pat Brown would lead the race till the end of the first lap, but ran into an issue which dropped him back a few positions.

Posted by: Admin

Dana Creech would then take over the lead until his kill cord came out heading into the whoops, which allowed Joe Haavisto and Matt White to pass him.

Posted by: Admin

Joe Haavisto would go on the win the first qualifier despite some serious pressure from Pat Brown

Posted by: Admin

Pro Qualifer Two

The Start

Posted by: Admin

Jason Luburgh would take the Win in the Second Pro Qualifer

Posted by: Admin

ITP Quadcross Pro Dustin Nelson would finish in the second spot and join Dana Creech in the Pro Main

Posted by: Admin

Tavis Cain would make the pass on Chad Wienen to take the final qualifying position, which forced Wienen to the LCQ

Posted by: Admin

Pro LCQ
Jeremy Lawson would grab the Holeshot followed Donald Lysinger and Steve Runkel, and Lawson would run strong the entire Moto and take the Win.

Runkel would end up breaking down.

Posted by: Admin

Rocco Arno Jr would end up going down over the lower triple, and he hit is knee, which had him in some serious pain.

He would spend the rest of the weekend watching the racing action, but he will be fine by Texas.

Posted by: Admin

Battle was on between Donald Lysinger and Chad Wienen for the final qualifying position with Wienen edging out Lysinger for the second place finish and final spot in the Pro Main.

Posted by: Admin

Cody Miller would be force to stick to the Pro Am Class this weekend, but I am sure he will pumped in Texas.

Posted by: Admin

Pro AM Unlimited
The other big race of the day was Pro Am Production with 41 Entries, which was incredible.

The class was split into several heat races, and a 2nd Moto 20 Rider Main, which had Baldwin's Josh Upperman and Mark Kendall jumping out to the early lead

Posted by: Admin

#60 Mike Machado would squeeze his way in between the pair to take over the second spot.

Posted by: Admin

A few laps into the race the battle remained intense amongst the top three.

Posted by: Admin

Matt White was on the heals on Brock Lyons as he began to pull in the lead pack.

Posted by: Admin

A few laps later, Matt White would catch the leaders and make the pass on Josh Upperman to take over the lead.

Posted by: Admin

Joe Byrd's Pro Am Twin, Clay Holmes, worked his way up into the third spot past Brock Lyons and Mike Machado

Posted by: Admin

Mark Kendall would drop back to 8th place behind Hunter Miller

Posted by: Admin

Jeremy Lawson will start the seaon off on a Honda, but he will be switching to the LTR450 after a few rounds.

Posted by: Admin

Robert Kramar's YFZ450 was looking Sweet

Posted by: Admin

The Precision Racing Products Steering Dampeners are popping up on all the machines at the Nationals, and I didn't see a single GPR stabilizer.

I still haven't personally had the chance to ride with one, but everyone I talked to swore it was the best thing they ever added to there ATV. All we need to do now is talk PRP into lowering the price a little, so everyone can afford one of these units.

Posted by: Admin

Saturday Night many race fans left Glen Helen and headed out to Anaheim to watch the AMA Supercross where Bubba Stewart spent more time rolling around in the dirt than on his bike, which allowed Ricky Carmichael to run away with the win.

Posted by: Admin

It was something to watch as Ricky rocketed through the whoops

Posted by: Admin

Before the Main Event, the Suzuki LT-R450 commercial was aired on the Big Screen.

Posted by: Admin

Jason Dunkelberger drove the LT-R450 out on the Supercross Track and sprinted down the starting line and turned around and rode a wheelie back to the starting gate because he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere else on the track

Posted by: Admin

Sunday Morning everyone was greeted with tropical storm strength winds that were well over 60mph at times, and everyone was really feeling the speed of the wind in the Glen Helen Valley

Posted by: Admin

The wind was whipping the sand around, which was like being in a huge sand blaster for most of the day.

Posted by: Admin

Only Paul Turner

Posted by: Admin

First thing Sunday Morning was the riders meeting and Travis Spader was showing his support for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Posted by: Admin

The top five pros from 2005 automatically received their gate picks based on finish, so John Natalie Jr would receive the first gate pick, and the remaining 15 Pros would draw for gate pick.

Keith Little would be the lucky and get the #6 pick with Kory Ellis pulling the #19.

Posted by: Admin

Kory Ellis's new mechanic for 2006 will be Allen White how previously worked for ATVRiders.com Sponsor Precision Concepts.

Posted by: Admin

Noon arrived soon enough and it was time for the start of the Pro Main.

Jeremiah Jones had the third gate pick, and headed to inside line

Posted by: Admin

Doug Gust on his hot lap before the start of the race

Posted by: Admin

I darted my way up the side of the hill, which I thought would never end as my legs were on fire at the top, but I figured the view was well worth the climb

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr would grab the Holeshot

Posted by: Admin

The charge up the hilll

Posted by: Admin

Tim Farr and Jeremiah Jones would end up colliding rounding the uphill turn

Posted by: Admin

Everyone began darting in different directions to avoid Jeremiah Jones and his QuadRacer

Posted by: Admin

Jeremiah Jones, Dustin Wimmer, Dustin Nelson, and Travis Spader

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr would lead the race from start to finish

Posted by: Admin

Keith Little held the second spot on his Lonestar Racing 450R

Posted by: Admin

#7 Joe Byrd continued to make his presence known as he held down the third spot, which gave Honda the top three sweep in the 1st Moto.

Posted by: Admin

Doug Gust finished out the race in the fourth spot on the Suzuki LT-R450

Posted by: Admin

The biggest surprise was to see Jeremy Lawson barely avoiding the wreck in the first lap and maintaining a 5th place finish

Posted by: Admin

Dustin Wimmer coil wire broke on his 450R, which ended his early charge.

Posted by: Admin

Pat Brown's YFZ450 was sputtering as he climbed the uphill whoops which was due to a rock damaging his wiring harness.

Posted by: Admin

Kory Ellis had a horrible start, but he was able to charge his way up into the top 10.

Posted by: Admin

Jeremiah Jones worked his way up to a 14th Place finish

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr on his way to the first Moto Win

The wind finally let up some, and Team Suzuki's Doug Gust and Jeremiah Jones took the inside line beside John Natalie Jr

Posted by: Admin

The start of the second Moto once again had John Natalie Jr grabbing the Holeshot.

Posted by: Admin

Joe Byrd would make the early pass and take over the lead heading up the uphilll whoops.

Posted by: Admin

The rest of the pack were eating plenty of rocks and dust rounding the turn, but unlike the first moto everything was going smooth.

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr would make the pass on Joe Byrd and Jeremiah Jones would begin to apply the pressure to Byrd.

Posted by: Admin

Keith Little was holding down the fourth spot.

Posted by: Admin

Doug Gust passed Joe Haavisto and took over the 5th spot

Posted by: Admin

By the next lap, Doug Gust had passed Keith Little and moved into 4th place

Posted by: Admin

Unlike the Moto One, Tim Farr wasn't experiencing any problems and he was in the top 10.

Posted by: Admin

Jason Dunkelberger was having a much better second moto than the first as he worked his way up through the pack

Posted by: Admin

Kory Ellis

Posted by: Admin

Dustin Wimmer's race ends early when his gets a flat rear tire

Posted by: Admin

Just afer Jeremiah Jones passes Joe Byrd his charge is brought to a halt with a rear suspension component failure, which sidelined him for the rest of the race.

Posted by: Admin

John Natalie Jr seemed to be in cruise control as he held a comfortable lead over Joe Byrd with only a few laps to go.

Posted by: Admin

John's lead would quickly disappear when his seat came loose and he tried to put it back on with out any luck and finally let it fall off onto the track.

Posted by: Admin

Joe Byrd wasted no time capitalizing on Natalie's seat issue and made the pass to take over the lead.

Posted by: Admin

Natalie Jr could only look over and watch as Doug Gust railed the turn and also made the pass to drop him back into 3rd place

Posted by: Admin

Keith Little was the next rider to set his sights on Natalie Jr, but there wasn't enough time and Keith would finish out the race in 4th place for a very impressive start to the year from someone known for his Dirt Track skills.

Posted by: Admin

Joe Byrd takes the Checkered Flag and throws his fist in the air to celebrate his Overall Win
