Utility Quad of the Month

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: TheFontMaster

For March's QOTM I am planning on having it a utility Quad of the Month. I'm not shure how many people have tricked out Utilitys, so I'm doing next month's QOTM similar to how I did the mini one. Everyone feel free to post pictures of your quads here, or use this thread as a heads up to get some good pictures of your quad. The entry thread for the Quad of the Month will start on the 14th, that lasts a week, and everyone can enter thier quads at that time. One the 21st I will then make a poll that will have 10 quads in it. People can then vote for the quad they like best, and in a week on the last day of the month I will close the poll, and declair a winner. Here is a link to the Quad of the Month section, look through some of the threads and the rules to get an idea for how the contest runs if you aren't already familiar with it.

i dont have a utility, but MudMonsertGrizz has an awesome mudder! he has to try out

Posted by: TheFontMaster

BUMP, there has to be more trick utilities than this.

Posted by: TheFontMaster

Is there even anyone on here with a ute that wants to enter it, It's been almost a week, and so far no one has posted anything. I thought this would be a good idea to have a utility QOTM but if I don't get atleast 7 nice entries I'm not going to do it this month.

Posted by: antwon412

well i should be getting my new tires and rims this week. as soon as i get them i will enter mne. its not much but at least its an entry.

and if no one else enters, i figure i have a pretty good cahnce of winning!

Posted by: Ken Robey

I 'll put some pics of mine in this week some time, still waiting on a couple of items, but it is done from the powder coated frame on up. Looks pretty damn good, I think.

Sounds like a nice quad you have, but unless I get some more people interested in entering, it's looking like I'm not going to do a utility QOTM, this month.

This thread has been up for about 2 weeks, and I only have a couple people showing intrest in entering.

Have the Ute of the month in April ... I should have one by then .

It won't be for April, but maybe March. I'm still going to try to have a ute QOTM, maybe next time.

these are last years pics... this one just before heading to the '05 Mud Nats, with the 10 - 25" Paddlemasters

this year the quad will look totally different... tons of powder coating... adjustable lift, gear reduction hubs, which offer 30" of ground clearance at full lift ( gear reduction hubs are being powdercoated candy red )... a local artist is custom painting my helmet & center piece of body plastic, "gator / dino" print vinyl on the seat, 30" chrome semi stacks for removable snorkles, mounted to 5.0 Mustang K&N air filters, on the end of a custom cut & sectioned 3" cold air induction, for both the engine & CVT inlet air, 37.5" rice & cane tires, mounted on Stazworks custom lazer cut wheels... but, sorry... no pics from this year, until just before the '06 High Lifter Mud Nats

Posted by: Mike Walker

last years winning run in the SRA class, with the 28" Mudzillas...

Posted by: Mike Walker

with the 33" tractor tires...

Posted by: Mike Walker

Pulling in the 1,700 lb utility vehical class... I had every weight I had, incuding my heaviest tool box... & only got to 1,650 lbs, but still outpulled a Kubota diesel 4 X 4 dump box utility vehical, & a 700 EFI Sportsman wearing a set of Matt Tracks

Posted by: Mike Walker

a little asphalt drag racing... ( before the addition of the wheelie bar )

Posted by: Mike Walker

me in the outside lane with the wheelie bar... 2 quads ahead, before the other quad even gets out of the starting gate...

Posted by: Mike Walker

a dark pic, but my little 750 beating a FST 765, in the dirt drags...

Posted by: Mike Walker

the quad hasn't hare scrambled for a few years, but it's airing it out here on a table top...

Posted by: homer

I'd enter mine but not enough trick parts yet. I just got an 06 team green 700. I've only added Maxxis all-trac tires, progressive springs in the front, PBR strut bar, Hi-Lifter ignition module, and a clutch spring that Penland recommends. It's not much but then again I only have 6 hours on it. I drag raced a buddy of mine on his raptor (piped, jetted, k&n filter, open airbox). I didn't have my ignition module or clutch spring yet. We raced 7 times, about 150 yards, He won 3, I won 3 and we tied once. Not to bad for a sport ute.

Posted by: Traindog71

Maybe next week I can get pics of mine up, TG FST P730, PC'd black Douglas Rokstar/OMFs, PC'd strut brace, Rox risers/dash mount, Elkas all around, All-Traks (also have a set of Tellurides with Swamp Lites), Pro Circuit Full, Moose Racing Lime Handguards, Moose Flex Bars, Ricochet Skids, Verde Powersports Custom Seat Cover, TwinAir Powerflow, ODI Rogue Lock On Grips, much more, can't remember it all

Posted by: RIDER11X

Well it's nice to see two Kawi's in the running so far....

My vote goes to Ken Robey's machine, as it is not only sweet looking, buy I'm a fool for dedicated XC race quads.

Nice work Ken!!!

Now let's keep the entries coming! It would be great to see the Ute section of this forum grow strong too.

Does my P700 dragster qualify?

Posted by: RIDER11X

It sure does qualify in my book! Got any videos of your runs?

Posted by: 1stQuad

here is another

Posted by: RIDER11X

Nice seat cover! Who made that?

There are some video clips on VDIs website, they were taken during beta testing of the VDI Copperhead . I have some better quality clips on my computer, but there is a compilation of the VDI clips here http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.ph...883048a9a715934 . Its a about 49mb, so don't try and download it unless you have cable or DSL.

Posted by: TheFontMaster

Well your quad will deffinatly be in. But I'm still not shure yet how I'm going to do the utility QOTM.

Where in NY are you? I'm just north of Utica.

Posted by: 1stQuad

I'm between Syracuse and Rochester, a little closer to Rochester. I know where Poland is, I have relatives in Boonville, Lyons Falls, Tug Hill, Carthage, Lowville, and Crogan. I am originally from Harrisville. I race all over NY & PA with the NY State ATV Drag Racing Association.

Posted by: RIDER11X

BTW, Welcome aboard 1st Quad! Glad to have you on the forum!

We would like to get more Utility Class racers on here to post as well. Spread the word!

The seat is my own creation from a car seat cover that I got at Walmart! We are going to be racing at a new track near Williamsport , PA this year. It is all sand and paddle tires are recommended. We are going to be at one of our best tracks in Lawton PA, 4 or 5 times this year also.

MMG... look'in good... was wondering when you'd post in here... you've got an awesome looking quad, & we can't let the Kawi's have all the fun...

I said I wasn't going to put any 2006 pics of Rex in till just before this years mud Nats, but I will put a few pics of some new parts...

this is the new blacked out motor & chassis...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Posted by: Mike Walker

with these 2 to 1 gear reduction lifts, & the tires I'll be running, this SRA will be sporting around 30" of ground clearance, then as easy as switching tires, & pulling a few pins, it'll be ready for drag racing...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

It'll be fun watching that thing try to stay on all 4 at 30"...lol...it's hard enough at 24"

Posted by: Mike Walker

the bright colors look great next to the flat black... & the powder coat is very durable...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Anyhow...mine is being submitted for "QUAD OF THE YEAR"

Posted by: Mike Walker

MMG... we don't stand a chance to Ken's GNCC machine anyways... but it's always fun to post pics...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Wow, you call your lazy-boy T-Rex?? Now that's cool!!

Posted by: 400exc

MMG has my vote! i love that grizz!

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Thank you very much. You can catch it in the July issue of ATV Rider magazine.

Posted by: Ken Robey

I will take that as a hell of a compliment coming from you Mike. I was out at the indy show and got to see some of your work at the High Lifter Booth. Impressive

Posted by: Mike Walker

I meant it as a compliment... your quad looks awesome... hope to bump into you some time...

was toying with the eye deer of doing the 6 hours race in Wisconsin this year... & maybe the 12 hours ( if they have it in TX this year )... have to see what the year holds, need a new machine if I'm going to race the 12 hours... been debating buying "momma" either that new 450 Woverine, or a 700 Prairie ( probably be the Prairie, as I already have sev clutches tires & wheels, etc ... but may bump into you at one of those ???

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Has everyone forgotten about the quad of the month or what? I have not seen anything posted about it anymore.

I really can't tell you whats going on with the utility Quad of the Month right now. There are just so few utes on this site, and I have had I think it's ony 3 maybe 4 people that have utes come foward and show them off here. Once I get 7 or 8 quads in this thread, I will PM all the people that own them to make shure they are still around the site, then start the ute QOTM then.

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Well, I think there are a bunch of ute’s on the site, but I don’t think there are any that can compete with me, Mike, or Ken…I think you’ll be hard pressed to find bikes to compete with these anywhere you look.

Posted by: Mike Walker

MMG.... got that right...

Posted by: Mike Walker

just a few of "getting ready" for this years Mud Nats...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

That's a nice lookin' machine, but who's that ugly old guy standing beside it?

Posted by: Mike Walker

some fat old man I found... standing around... poor guy could barely get his leg up on the floor board...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Pretty unique design there...guess the main question is...will it go? I would like to see some footage of the thing in action.

Posted by: Mike Walker

it's gonna go... everything is overkill on the side of heavy duty... the weak link is an 8000 lb capacity heim joint

the really amaizing part is the front hub & linkage design, that allows full range of turning, & full range of suspension ( I have spring spacers in to firm the suspension up )... that & the fact that the quad is not limited to mud only... I will be pulling, with out the hubs, just prior to the B2B contest, then in like an hour, I'll be bolting on the full gear reduction lift set up, & snorkles, for the mudda cross races, & the show... then the lift will stay on for the balance of the mud competitions, & provided everything holds up on the quad, will come off Saturday night again, & the quad will be set up to spank some sport quads on the sand drag strip again on Sunday...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

How much power are you loosing to the ground??

Also have you thought about ladder bars port to stbd.?? Looks like the gear reduction hubs could shift under the right pressure.

Posted by: Mike Walker

the rears use a chrome moly tracking arm that sits between a slide in & pin frame mount, & hold the gear boxes in place... there are 4 different positions, to lower & extend the wheel base to tune them...

... the fronts are different, to allow turning, but function similarly...

BTW... they offer a 2 to 1 gear reduction on the final drive... low enough to easily spin the 37's...

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

Guess I'll just wait and see if it works or not.

Posted by: TheFontMaster

BUMP.

I think I'm going to give the utility QOTM another try for May. So if anyone else has some Utes post em!!

Posted by: Mike Walker

you've already seen last years pics... here's a new one... not quite done yet, but close enough... leaving for the '06 Mud Nats in 3 days...

Posted by: Mike Walker

OK... a side view... then thats it... I vote for Kens quad anyways...

Mike, even if it didn't win in the mud pit, you deserve an award for creativity! Wow, wild ride! Post vids!

Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz

It's crazy for sure...I for one and not a fan of those pipes in the front, but to each their own.

You might want to call ahead and check on the width of the pits to make sure they don't need to widen them for you...lol

Here is my little Prairie
