The Pluses of running an 250r axle in a 400ex

well for those of you that dont know the 250r axles are a perfect fit, you have to run 250r rear hubs and sprocket hub but thats all. now for the best plus ive found with running these is that they are cheaper becasue most all 250rs have aftermarket axles, and that the castle nuts that hold the hubs on are twice the width and are alot beefier than a 400ex castle nut.

ill post pics of a comparison of the 2 tonight when i get home and youll see how big of a diferrence there really is.

pic 2 cant jsut look at the 250r nut on the right is darwfs the 400ex axle nut on the left no way you can round these babies

So a 250R axle from any year 250R will fit the 400ex, but you need 250R hubs right ???

im not a 100% sure on the any year thing but my axle is a durablue (aka durabreak) that came off a 250r i dont know the year becasue the guy didnt say waht year just that he ahd installed it from his 250r when he blew the motor and that he had to use teh 250r hubs and the sprocket hub but eveything else fits. mine is the eliminator +2 +4 axle

You will need a 250r locknut too. While your at it get the r brakes.

...so I take it, you've tried that set up before? How's the new bike runnin? Tail light works great, thanx again....

if you run the R brake, you will gain some needed ground clearence for Xc

I've been sgined up 4 years tommorow.

I have used the 250r brake set up like pappy said , more ground clearence, and it works better all around.

What is the difference between the 400ex and 250R rear brake set up besides clearence? What does it take to mount them on the 400??

I've heard of guys running 450r rear brake calipers and fronts too.
Suppose to be a pretty good set up.

The 450r parts would be cheaper and gennerally better shape since there not 15+ years old.

All the 250R brakes are dual piston and and have larger pads. And work better all around.

Night and day difference on braking power. The 250R rears have better feel, modulation, and incredible power. I have the R rear on my 440, my 426 has the stockers. I am interested in swapping to 450R front and rears on the 426, but the stock fronts seem to work OK. I saw a thread from a guy who did this here, but he was not really clear on what you needed to make the swap.
