Take a look at the bottom of a 400ex or 450r shock and tell me how youre going to mount it. Enquiring minds want to know...

if your wanting a rear shock for cheaper than an aftermarket one find a 2001 raptor rear shock...the shock comes off of the 660 and will bolt up with little resistance...only the 2001 though because it hase a remote rezzi and can be mounted in another locatation whereas all the other years they have a piggyback and that rezzi will hit the airbox or frame i cant remember. makes a world of difference

400ex shock will not work. Even if you manage to fab something to get the bottom to work, and use a lowering kit to get ride height correct, your frame will slam into the ground on your first jump.
Cheap alternative = 01 Raptor Rear.
Mid Level = Revalved/Resprung 01 Raptor Rear. (good enough for 80% of us)
Best = A shock built for the job.
