whats the best setup for air filter as well what exhaust is best ran for this 06 trx400ex

Posted by: patches85

This is prolly a matter of opinion. I personally like a K&N air filter and FMF exhaust.

Posted by: 2004exrider

A lot are gonna tell you K&N/UNI for the filter and either the HMF or White Brothers.

Thats right i like the UNI better than K&N but it up to you. HMF or Sparks cant go wrong

uni and k&n are both really good air filters, unis are good cause they dont get dirty as fast as the k&n,but k&n are quicker to clean, but if you go with the k&n I would get the outerwear for it,it will help keep it clean a little better. As far as the pipe, theres tons of them, took me awhile to decide but I eneded up going with w-bros

There are a ton of set ups but its just a matter of opinion pretty much. I like the white bros. e series, but thats just me. And as for the filter i just run the powerfilter that comes with the e series, and i drilled holes in the back of my air box lid and it works just fine.

uni with hmf or sparks

Posted by: vinny3299

some great info guys thanks i hear a lot of people perfer hmf , now does the slip or full exhaust from them i heard hondas head pipe are decent where the full exhaust arent worth it due to the bending and built are identical.....

k&n are known for letting stuff in sometimes too if i'm correct but does outerwears help that and woudl you run with the lid off...?

Posted by: midnight

yes,the outwear help prevent letting stuff in and yes having the lid off will help for more air flow but if you dont want the lid off they make little 1inch fillters you can drill into the lid

have you seen the mod for the stock exahust where you put the screen only insert into the exhaust costs like 20bucks on ebay any try using these i've heard on other quads it like 90% like having an aftermarket pipe on there... but fraction of the cost

Posted by: ex_fan

go with the k&n filter and the HMF or the white brither e-series.

it is a joke, pretty much same as taking your baffle out. power is not going to go up much and it sounds like crap. i personally prefer K&N filter with an outerwear. and for the exhaust i like my HMF but have heard good things about sparks. White bros. gives you good power but is poor quality and are known to crack or break. Get a full system if you can, but a slip on still gives you a pretty good gain. You can get a slip on now and add a headpipe later if you plan on doing more mods.

Posted by: vinny3299

yeah thats what i was looking at too... would you haveta rejet again changing the headpipe later???

k&N i hear is the way to go and get the outwear's for the lid off or how woudl you suggest srunning it

Posted by: andrew emmons

i would ho with the k&n and the hmf.

thats what i have and i love it.!!

Posted by: vinny3299

do you have the lid on or off and is the hmf slip on or full exhaust

Posted by: allstock

i have the pro design pro flow kit it has a fiter with an outer filter(not outer wears another filter). i thinks its great and worth the 80 something dollars. the lid is off because it doesnt fit and i run it with a sparks

Posted by: vinny3299

you ever race other quads if so which ones and how did you match up

Posted by: ReconRider25

k&n w/outerwears n no lid with hmf slipon and ground down welds in header.

Posted by: vinny3299

what you mean by grind the welds???

Posted by: andrew emmons

my airbox lid is on, and the hmf exhaust is a slipon.
