I have a service manual from honda but it does not say the amount of tork(sp) the springs need. If they need any which i assume they do

Posted by: 300exQuadracer

use a 1/4 in ratchet snug them with your hand down by the socket, then just a tiny bit more like a 1/8 turn, and do it in a criss cross pattern

they were hard to get out tho i dont think 1/8 is enough. any body know?

Posted by: Cr85rRida

need to install does any body know ? Plaese help!

tighten them like he said. put your fist around the ratchet and tighten the bolts down till they bottom out and then give it a little more "love"(1/8 more)

wow what a pain to get the screws to catch. i didnt get them fully tightend yet. How do you know when they "bottom out" do i keep going until no springs a visable?

The bolts squish the springs, but only up to a certain point. Eventually, the bolt head makes contact with the pegs on the inner clutch hub, and the springs are trapped between the bolt and the pressure plate.

Take a moment to look at it, and figure out how the springs apply pressure to the pressure plate and clutch discs. Once it clicks in your mind, you'll see exactly what everybody is talking about.

SO i tighten them in criss cross pattern until the head of the screw meets the pressure plate, then give it more "love" and im good? lol

It doesn't meet the pressure plate, it meets the clutch inner hub. At that point, the springs are trapped between the inner clutch hub (and bolts) and the pressure plate. This is what applies pressure to the clutch discs.

Wait hang on let me ask you somthing. Before i put the pressure plate on i put the rode in followed by the lifter peice then the needle bearing and then washer THEN pressure plate?

What doo you mean inner hub?

could you get me some sort of diagram?

thanks

#5 is the clutch inner hub. #4 is the basket, and number 8 is the pressure plate.

You should easily be able to recognize it on your own quad, it's pretty hard to miss.

Look at the middle of the inner hub, it has 5 "pegs" that the clutch spring bolts fit into. The springs fit over these pegs.

When the clutch spring bolts are tightened, they should come all the way down and tighten against these pegs. The springs are now trapped between the bolts and the pressure plate.

When you pull in the clutch, the lifter rod pushes the pressure plate outward. This compresses the springs, and takes the pressure off the clutch plates. This allows the clutch to spin freely.

When you let the clutch out again, the springs push the pressure plate against the clutch discs, causing them to "grab".

ok i read therse post over and still nto getting the answer i need. I have the bolts on but there not tightend enough because you can till see the spring poped out.

My question is how do i know when to stop turning them? You said do it with your hand but its to hard the spring is to tuff to do by me hand.

Tighted them with your hand on the end of the rachet where it pivots untill the bolt stops. Not tighten the screw with your fingers.

Ah i see i thought he ment use the size in my hand and use it. lol ok thanks.

Posted by: Cr85rRida
