I have the sand star tires front and back and I ride a lot in Pismo. I was wondering what the best tire pressure is for the dunes? for both front and rear tires. I drag race also in the sand, what tire pressure is best for that also?
Thanks!!

i also have sandstars all around, and i personally run them inflated to the max... i get plenty of traction, and i can spin em better when they are aired up... especially if youre gunna drag, i would air them up tons... i can barely push down on mine... especially the rears...

what pressure would that be?
Thanks

I have always ran my rear sand tires (Haulers and Sand Skate II's) at about 3-4 lbs.

i dont know what pressure it is, but you'll be able to feel... you'll barely be able to make them go in (indent) at all...

it varies. For pismo, the sand could be real moist or during the summer time real fine. With the sand stars, run 4-5 psi. in the .rear, you'll be pushing 3psi, might pop a bead. fronts run 4-5 psi you'll be fine.. (simply just feeling the tire wont give a accurate reading, your tool bag will have a tire guage, use it)

I mostly run about 3 1/2 pounds in the rear and 4-5 pounds in the fronts. If the sand is wet I will add a little to help get the tires to spin.

i run my sand stars at 30psi b/c they've popped the beads too many times. i still get plenty of traction. just the roost isn't as tall. good luck

Generally, you don't want to "dig" into the sand, you want to float on top of it.
I knew a gal that had a 400EX that she was ready to scrap. It just didn't have the power to make it to the top of the drag hill, even though other 400EXs could easily make it.
Turns out, she just had way too much pressure in her tires, and couldn't get the traction. At 3-4psi, she made it to the op easily.
In the sand, 4psi will give you much better traction and hook-up than 30psi.

i dont have a 400ex, but like i said i pump my sandstars up to the max and i dont have a problem getting any traction. in fact i still have to get up over my bike when racing to keep my front end down, and when i'm racing up the hill i have to be careful my front end doesnt come up over me... unless the lady was huge, i cant imagine a 400ex not making it up a dune... just put it in 2nd and go... musta had some really crappy paddles or something

or it was the skid plate on the bottom that gives it about 2 inches of travel, lol. We only ride dunes so the skid plate it not a necesity. we took it off both the z400 and the 400ex..... wow what a difference no more dragging, we lost the sled.

yes you deffinately want your fronts PUMPED up, cause if they are low your digging into the sand like wilkin said. And when your digging your turning Sucks!
