450r center of gravity fix?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I put the ITP XCR tires on my 450r and it is still kinda tippy. I have stock a arms, axle, stock suspension...
I was wondering if shaving the seat, like dirtbikers do, would lower the center of gravity because you would be sitting lower. has anyone ever tried that?
-thanks

Yeah, ive adjusted it and screwed with it a lot. I'll probably just have to bite the bullet and widen it. Thanks for the help though.

get your shocks revalved by gt thunder, it will lower it 2 inchs and will work just as good as aftermarket shocks. you dont need to go any wider, stock suspension is fine for A class riders......
Posted by: XCRACER26
how much does the gt thunder kit cost for them to do, does that include springs and such.
Posted by: MAD450r
I believe I seen it was 625$ thats all new springs valving and a new rear link. Check out there site
http://www.gtthunder.com/
hope that helps
I went with derisi's setup but its a bit more $$$, I hear derisi, gt thunder and c&d racing all do a great job.

sweet, I'll have to look into that some more. Thats a hell of a lot cheaper than to buy a arms, axle, swingarm... and all that stuff I dont even need yet. Thanks a lot!

lol im pretty sure my elkas redone by laz are a bit better then stock
but laz at gt thunder does a great job, great guy, well worth the money to get your shocks done by him
Posted by: Airik79mx
He's talking about stock shock's....There's no way a re-worked stock shock will work like aftermarket long travel shocks..And most of all not for an A class rider.. Maybe one that should be in C..
Posted by: WhiteZee
let me be more clear here.....
the stock shocks setup by laz will work better then the elkas you would buy for $900 that are setup by elka . mine really dont work that great, i wish i would have just waited for the revalve, but i wasnt out yet when i got my front elkas.
im taking my elkas to gt thunder next week to have him revalve them and convert to dual rate.

I will agree with you about the Elka's.. They need someone to set them up because they can't do it..

dont take this the wrong way but you may want to adjust your riding style.
If you position your body and transfer your weight right this machine is far, far from tipsy.
Even in stock form it is agressive. I have nho problem flinging this thing sideways.......just take slots of practice.
GT rear shock treatment is $330...(best money ever spent). New fronts from TCS are $875. (lowers it 2 plus inches and REALLY made a huge difference.) You also get 11.35 inches of travel from the front and 10.5 from the rear ...which is combined over 3 more inches then stock.

i beleive there is an aftermarket seat that lowers the center of gravity for the 450R. I forget the company that makes it though. its like 225 bucks though and it makes it harder. "jeepnrocks" has it on his quad i beleive. he posts his quad on central.com. pretty sweet

Trust me, I ride right and my quad is tippy. For a beginner rider its probably fine but I'm no beginner, I'm just broke. lol. I should be one of the many that have really expensive suspended quads, but Im not and I dont. I'm trying to find the cheapest way possible to fix this problem without selling my house. lol. So its not the way I ride. Thanks for the suggestions though. Keep em' coming guys.

stock shocks can perform well into the A class level. my friend is running neck and neck in the mid south winter series with the top 2 guys that have full ars-fx suspension in the 4 stroke A class.

stock pegs height is too high IMO. I think A/C just came out with some new pegs that lower the height but I don't think heel guards are an option.

the seat you are talking about is a corbin....and they are not cheap....but I am going with a Laz rear revalve and his link...and he is converting my TCS's from my 250R to work on my 450....this quad won't be the same when its all said and done

thats fine, your friend has talent........ a stock set up.. no matter how well built is not as effective as a well built aftermarket such as ars.
i have seen you make 2 kinds of post, either derogatory or swingin on the gt thunder sac........ lay off ............
and make your educated opinion when you actually have several different sets of shocks set up for YOU to judge from

Just my opinion. If you get a new seat, that will only lower the ride height by what..1/2" at most, and the loss is all from the highest area on the quad.
I know its more money, however if you get good shocks that lower the bike by 2" the lowering is comming from the ride height of the bike that will lower the cener of gravity much moore than 1/2" off the top.
Simple physics in my feable mind.
I totally diagree with you do not need suspension until your an A rider.I know my good suspension saved my over 40 class rear more times than I care to remember on the MX tracks.
Just some ramblings from experience and common sence

arent you the guy who publicly announced the green wire makes no timing difference............
i never said gt thunder or laz werent top notch, what i said was, no stock set up no matter who makes it is going to hang with a well built aftermarket..........
and this was your 2 posts combined into one, swinging on the gt thunder bean bag and derogatory all in one
but keep us up to date with your uneducated opinions……..

and thats the way to come up with an excellent ride....... you will see lots of parts coming up for the 04/05 450's thanks to the 06 450 and ltr450, bide your time if you are on a budget... you will get the right parts at a good price....
when you get the things you want.....make sure you have someone well expierenced do your shocks for you...... this will be the most important $$ you spend.
ps....sorry to vent in your thread man

i learned to ride my 450 with the stock shocks for a little over a year. i practiced all season and did the last race of the year. i think its good to learn how to ride the quad stock first. then when you get some suspension, its that much better.
