Best Overall Utility ?

I'm in the market for a Utility atv and I don't follow their market too much . Chances are it'll be a used atv ... something newer than a 2002 though .
In your opinion , what is the best all around machine out there for comfort , handling , power and reliabilty ??
It doesn't have to be the biggest or baddest ... I'm just looking for something over 450cc .
I've looked into the Grizzly 660 and Kodiak 450 ... I really enjoy their looks , but I don't know much else about them ( any problems etc) . I'm not a big guy ... I'm about 5'8" and 145 lbs .
I'll be using the quad for hunting , playing around in the mud , plowing a driveway and going on day trips with my girlfriend on the back .
Let me know what you guys think are the best 4x4 ATVs out there . Thanks !!!!

look into the suzuki eiger 400. itx a great quad. sporty in 2wd and a beast in 4wd. you would love it. you should be able to get a brand new 2005 for super cheap right now.
i had one for a while and loved it to death.

i would prefer the king quad 700, its won about in every competition its been in, fast, powerful, but it all depends on how much you want to spend

money is a good point. the KQ is amazing but alot more. I had my eiger for 2 months. drove my friends new KQ and i traded in my eiger. i lost a crapload of money but was worth it. you might be beter off getting the KQ and you wont feel like you need more power down the line.

Well here's the deal . What I'm hoping to do , is trade my 2004 YFZ 450 for a 4x4 quad .... hence the reason it'll be a used quad . Hopefully I can find someone with a decent 4x4 that wants a sport quad ... that way I can do a straight up trade .
If I can't find someone , I'm going to strip the YFZ down and return it to stock , have my dealer sell it on consignment and with the extra $$ i can get for my aftermarket parts , maybe I'll have enough for say an 05 Kodiak or something .

I went with the grizzly 660, I have a 05' and my girlfriend just got the 06', they have a good deal going right now, $6199 and a warn 2500 winch for $69 bucks, could not pass it up,

Take a look at the Brute Force 650's, You can find some serious deals on leftovers (Cheaper than Kodiak 450's) Awesome power out of the V Twin, I havent used mine much yet, but already love what I have seen.

I wouldnt say the best. In dirt wheels, i got 3rd place out of the KQ, the polaris 800, and the BF.(correct me if im worng) but it wasnt the quickest, but it has some pretty good power

KQ is the reining champ of the shootouts in pretty much every thing I have seen. It is supposed to be a great all around quad.
Our local shop sells polaris, suzuki and honda and when I see them riding a 4X4 it's a KQ.
I personally was not to concerned about speed and sliding it around corners. I have a sport quad for that. That's why I went the way I did. I'm happy with my choice

I just got a call from my dealership this morning .... they told me they have my YFZ sold . Looks like I'll be on a Grizzly in the near future .

Go with the 700 sportsman! ! ! !
Posted by: panteramatt
The 700 and 800 sportsman are very underpowered for their size but offer a great deal of storage capicity. Personally, I would look at a 500 suzuki vinson, a great bike for the $.

But I must say, if I could have any quad it would be the brp 800 or kq 700 just for the looks, power, and efi!

as far as power goes the 800 vs 800 test between the brp and the polaris in dirtwheels set them pretty even with the edge going to the brp especialy at higher altitudes. The polaris did win the shoot out though for suspension and some other reasons.
Personaly I love mine. I pack enough stuff with me to get through about anything including being stranded on a cold night. You would never know it though because it's all inside the compartments. There is a good reason that the camera men for the magazines use polaris' as the chase vehicle when testing quads.
I just wish the parts where as cheap as on a honda.

I have both a KQ and the Eiger both 2005.
For the money the Eiger is a great deal
I paid 4500 out the door.
It has great power and is fast 52-55,
My son has no problem keeping up
with any of the big quads.

I Just got a Prairie 360 4X4 and the thing rips.. in 2 wheel drive it acts liek a sport quad and when its in 4x4 it climbs over anything.. Great quad. I recomend it.

get a grizzly or rincon!!!!!
Posted by: 440exking
Go with a Honda cause i see it all the time where after the guys with belts leave the mud/water they only run 30 and when they break just hope u have a real tranny to pull u back.
Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz
Yea, my grizzly won’t go at all after leaving the mud and water…that is if I go over the top of the snorkels…5 foot deep!
Besides that all it’s good for is leaving Honda’s eating dust…

i was a yamaha guy thru and thru for a lot of years. Big bear, then wolverine, then grizzly. Then i got a honda rincon.
Then, I drove a BRP Outlander. I couldnt get rid of that rincon fast enough. The outlander 400 could keep up with that rincon 650.
Now with the fuel injected v-twin 800, i cant imagine a better sport utility machine...

brute force 650, its not the most pricey, its not the biggest or the baddest, it has almost as much power as the bigger ones, its very quick so you wont feel as big of difference going from a yfz to a 4x4 (im not saying its as fast or snappy, but its faster than others in its class) my buddy just bought one and the thing is sweet, never gets stuck, i think his came with a winch for free from the dealer and hes gone through some knarly stuff with it and never had any problems...he also just bought a raptor 700r (he kept the brute force) and i was really suprised that the raptor has kept up through all the water and mud and knarly trails that he used to go on with the BF...take a look at a 700r...im just throwing it out there...it might not be what your looking for if you want to carry passengers and haul stuff but its diffinately worth a look

i think the honda rubicon is the best overall utility quad. it might not be the fastest but it will pull anything the engine and trans on it are the smoothest ive ever driven.
Posted by: First Outlander
I get to test drive everything out their because of my dealer friend, if you take one ride on a Outlander 800 you will be sold. IMO it is head and shoulders above everything else. It does everything great plus the fun factor is second to none. If 95% of the mags say agree with the above there must be something to it. Try one and let the love affair begin.

The only thing I have seen that I did not like about the BRP 800 was that when dynoed it is putting out massive power, but almost all at really high RPM's. Doesn't have a whole lot of power down low from what the dyno showed.
Posted by: First Outlander
It don't know what a dyno shows but in the real world I can take a Brute out of the hole and pull away all the way to top speed everytime. I also do the same with a Brute that has a CDI and jet kit although it was closer race. One thing to remember is that the 800 has a camlike throttle so you can accurately do slow speed stuff, when you race you must hit it all the way two get full power.
Posted by: MudMonsterGrizz
I saw a bunch of dyno runs and they do full throttle on them. They didn’t hit peak power until way up high, which I didn’t care for with the kind of riding I do, but I will admit the thing makes sick power. Just doesn’t make enough down low for my taste.
On another note I have never been a “fan” of the Brute Force. The CVT is sub-standard IMO and it’s geared way too high. It will push the big tires on the market, but it will also smoke more belts than any other quad on the market. I remember we had one riding in high range doing 30MPH and it was smoking the belt with 29.5” Laws on it. The bike had HMF exhaust, clutch kit, dynojet, and K&N…it still smokes the belt any time you slap it in high range.

but u dont have a bombardier... bombardier's are wicked fast and are going to have the best 4-wheelers made in about 3-5 years... just wait. I read on a site they are coming out with a BPX450... in 2008... trying to compete with other 450's.
