(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

how much wood would i need cuz i dont know how to weld. i cant find any wair how to make a wooden supper kicker. and is 9 feet to big?

is the jump in the back ground as steep as a supper kicker cuz its almost streight up at the lip?

If I were you, I would scrap the wood idea, unless you or someone you know is a master carpenter. No, nevermind, I still don't recommend it...lol. To much room for error. If I were you, I would consider a metal ramp like everyone else does.

I would think it would be much more sturdy and safe.

But, what do I know, I'm just a harescrambler

wood kicker = very bad idea. Or for that matter wood anything if your gonna be driving over 300 lbs over it repeatedly. Just my two cents.

Posted by: blue450yo

bomb squad has a wooden jump. and if their bad then how mutch more more will it cost for mettle. my neighbor has a big fre stile ramp but it isnt set up yet cuz theirs no landing and want to fly high fast.

this is the best jump i got so far. i was going to use this jump and the landing spot for the landing spot for the supper kicker.

You need to check out steel prices for a real good estimate. Right now im pretty sure the price of steel is pretty high, not sure what it is though. Im guessin you could make a metal kicker for around 900, give or take. Just an idea, might be cheaper to rent a dozer for few days and get some dirt jumps built. Ive done that a few times, it wasnt to bad a price at all, could be different around where you are. A lot more fun, too. But like I said, just an idea though. Theres a pic of the superkicker here by the way:

kickers

for that price i will make a dirt one or if i can get cheep wood ill do it.

a guy i know works at a metal shop do u think they would sell him metal cheaper?

Posted by: 01screamindemon

Yea they most likely sell it to him cheaper. More power to ya if you know someone that works in a metal shop. Especially if he buys in bulk. Go talk to him and see what you can work out.

lol don't listen to this dude ^^^

actually yea do, and if u can't get it for a cheaper price, then ''borrow'' some for a long period of time.

i am also going to be buying or building a metal ramp but before i buy any metal, im going to my old high school, and hopefully ordering metal through them, when i was a student there, one of my shop teachers said he could order me metal at the schools discounted rate, maybe you wanna give that a try

Posted by: kdub33

yea same thing at our h/s. for our woods & metal shop classes we have, the students always got the material at a discounted price. even for out of class projects.

i have a 6 foot jump that is jest like a suppper kicker and its fun not bad.

Posted by: Honda MaNiAc 01

Whats wrong with that jump? If its just as good as a kicker why dont u make a landing furthur back n go faster

Maybe mess with it a bit n make it steeper or higher

Posted by: blue450yo

im making it biger this spring. i would have it bigger already but the ground is froze

Posted by: blue450yo

i have to build all my jumps with only a shouvle.

bad idea? u mean use that dirt jump as a landing? not a good idea if u ask me...it to steep u need a less angled landing IMO.

Posted by: blue450yo

i ment take the dirt jump and make one big landing pile for the landing cuz theirs about 3 dump truck loads total for that dirt jump and the landing

I'm still trying to find out what the *** you just said, you need some spell check or frigging hooked up phonics.!!

Posted by: brandon34r

man that guy is a total toolbag...

Posted by: kicken250x

my fist advice to you is to quit being a douche and learn how to spell. that kinda stuff gets you pretty far in life. 2...if youre building skills are anywhere as good as youre speaking skills you should NEVER touch any sort of tool... listen to the people, they know what theyre talking about, wood+250 lbs of metal and plastic= hopefuly broken face so on second thought hell...go for it

Posted by: gonenbroke

i dnt have plans or advice but i was going to build a wooden ramp and my dads a carpenter.....if u build the frame with 4X4s and make everyything else outta 2X4s then its impossible to break
and make sure its treated wood

Posted by: rohlik125

I built one for bmx bikes a few years ago and we used 4X4 and 2X4 lumber that was treated and at all the joints with the 2X4s we used "Joist Hangers" with add a lot of strength to the joint. They use the same things in house construction.

Posted by: QuadR8cer12

you can just buy my metal kicker ramp if you want it

Posted by: MXRACER86

Dam, You spell like your on horse tranquilizers!

Posted by: gonenbroke

and a 9 foot will cost a lil over 200 for materials

Funny chit!!

Posted by: wolffie

my buddies and me built this baby wooden jump for my little brother to practice on. the amount of air is a disgrace, but it is just right for a 12 year old heres my dumbass friend tim doing a whip on it....lol

anyways. the jump we built has a low center of gravity and we built it with 6x6's and a ton of other scrap wood. the thing weighs well over 200lbs!!!! Im no expert carpenter but when you have something with a higher center of gravity you need to reinforce the **** out of it! you might be better off buying a truck load of dirt and goin from there. i am not discouraging the wooden jump, im just thinkin of some other ideas! good luck man!

Posted by: quader400

any one who says wood is a bad plan could not be more wrong. i have a 6 foot wooden kicker and it does not budge and will never break... made it myself. i had no plans even when i built it i just started building and it is awesome... all i gotta say is get a nail gun and cross bracing cross bracing cross bracing. put it every where you can fit it. i only paid like 60-80 bucks for the ply wood. put like four layers down. and a really thick board across the lip. my dad is a carpenter and all the other wood i had laying around... like some one else said though deffinatly use treated wood or else you will be sorry. also i have shingles on the face of the jump for traction and weather protection

Posted by: 8my_Cash

heres a wooden one just needs a lot of bracing and make sure you use 2x6s for the verticle spars

Posted by: 8my_Cash

that is one for a dirtbike i dont have pictures of a quad one but i plan on experimenting with the wooden one so hopefully in a month when iget home from school ill get some wooden ones up

Posted by: motoman287

here's a few of me off the ramp i made for bike. It's held up for about 4 years now...no problems.
