CR ignition?

I just got my hands on a 2001 cr 250 motor compleat with ignition. It seems that the ignition system can easily go on the R. What are some of the pros and cons of running the newer ignition. Aside from not having any lights, is there a down side?
From what I can figure all the new system would need for the R motor is the ESR billet adapter plate. anything else?
It seems to be an easy mod, are there many people running this setup?

The esr adapter plate is all you need to put it on the R. If you ride XC, you wouldn't want to use the cr ignition. It is to much in the woods. But if you MX or drag race and possibly dunes, it's an awesome up grade.

This bike will only get ridded in the dunes.
I was doing some more serches and found a couple of threads where people were saying that the motor has a tendencie to stall because of the smaller stator (less inertia). How big of a problem is the stalling? Does it stall only on lower rpm's, like at idle?

I have a CR ignition on my Drag bike and love it. I had it on my trail bike and I took it off and put back the stock ignition with the Dyna ignition box. The CR has a great spark but the lighter flywheel causes the motor to stall easier. You have to get used to it. It worked good on my trail bike but I had to work the clutch a little more to keep it from stalling. It stalls at lower rpm when trying to lug motor or coming to a stop too quickly.

make sure you get a coil bracket and the adapter plate or you will have to fab up a bracket for the coil the plug wire is about 8 inchs out of the coil and were the stock coil use to mount has about a 10 inchs of wire on the old coil
i run them in all my motors and they have a way hotter spark and rev much quicker
just my 2 cents

Who makes the coil bracket?
Does anyone make a mount for the computer module?

esr, I'm told the cdi fits in the stock holder.

ESR sells the bracket you need
www.esr250.com

I've checked out ESR's site and it does not say anything about the coil bracket, does it come with the adapter plate?

Its the same bracket that they use on air filter kit
Just call ESR tomorrow and talk to Daren or Jay
they will know what your talking about...
Here's a pic of it..

right on, thats the same mount I use for my rear brake reservoir. I wonderd what that other hole was for, looks like the dirtbike's aluminum bracket bolts right up to it.
thanks for the info.

I run an ESR on my R and all I ride is woods and trails, I just got use to the way it runs with it......if you know your bike and how it runs you shouldn't have a problem with it

sounds like there is more of an upside with the modern ignition. would it help to set the motor to a high idle to try to help it idle?
Do any of you know if the stator can be modified for lights?

if there are 'spare' i.e - EMPTY , positions for wire to be wound then you can wind your own lighting coil . a lot of the small honda 80's and stuff get this done to them a lot , saves honda the price of the wire i suppose ..

how can I tell if there is an empty position?

my R doesn't idle that high...I never have a problem keeping it running.....it revs quick and runs great without ever fouling a plug...I changed the plug one time this summer...and that is only because I burnt the plug up....cause I run a fine wire plug....and with the hotter spark...the plugs don't last as long....but my buddy went through more plugs in his 400EX than I did with my 250R
