Hi I am new here and our family decided to start going to the desert again. The only thing I have ever ridden is a Honda 200x 3-wheeler. But I am now 6 foot 225 pounds and do you think this would be the right quad or should I go to the trx450?

if youve never ridden a quad and have no experience than you cant handle a 450r so get the 400

yeah the 400 should be enough 4 u
Posted by: Nick110
400ex is perfecto for u.
Posted by: 400exstud
Ditto. 400ex is very user friendly
PS: If you are wondering if a 450 is big enough, 450s are the fastest quads made.

a 450 might be too much machien for a rider of your exprince level a 400ex will be good and fun for you
Posted by: csimp3
tell me this guy isnt gonna get a 450 after being told it may be too much for him, thats like a dare, haha, but anyways, i am 6'1, 210 lbs and i love my 400ex, plenty of go power
Posted by: a-1
if you are looking for the bigger quad the 400ex looks and feels bigger than the 450r when i sit on it and ride it. but the 450r has better over all performance minus e start. but i hear the 06 is offering e start

Get the 400ex. You can modify it easily as your skill level increases and you want more power.

good luck finding a dealer that lets you ride one. none of the dealer around here will let you ride em. find someone that is selling a used one and test drive it.

Posted by: icy1155
yes there is... you realize it when ur sittin on yer *** and yer wheeler is bout half a field away... my friend thought it would be a good idea to go out and buy a new yfz 450 and race my 400ex... he might have beat me if he coulda handled it
Posted by: slamdak8782
well after he gets used to it you will be trying to catch him and will be spending a but load to catch him At least that is what I did till I got some sense and bought a new machine
Posted by: 400exstud
Is there such a thing as rider skillz? I know people that can ride a blaster faster than another person on a raptor because the person on the blaster grew up on it and knows it inside and out.

I did notice the power delivery was very similar to the 200x's so I got use to it very fast. Hardest part for me was getting use to turning later and not having to power slide all corners like I had to on my 200x.
Now that I have been riding 4 wheelers a few years I stepped up to the 450r, I have to say it took a bit to get use to all the power it had with hrc installed from the dealer. I then added my sparks exhaust [which I had ordered before I picked up the 04 450r]. After that I was actually intimidated by it for a while. So I then had to setup the suspension. Once I did that I feel much more comfortable ripping around on the 450r.
If its all the power you want. I mean if thats why you are choosing the 450r. I ride my 416ex alot with stock 450rs and I can beat them and hang with them n/p. Now if we hit the road or a drag strip over 300 feet they will kill me. So really I'd recommend a used slightly built 400-426ex with suspension to start out with. Can probly find a decent setup one for 4000$ or lesss.

Sounds a lot better then jumping strait into a 450.

Posted by: Elyk
Yeah But he lives on the othe side of the united states. I live in California.
Posted by: trx400exxracer
well at least get a 400ex if you don't want to kill yourself I have been riding for 12 years and I have finaly worked my way up to a 400 not because of my weight or age but because of my skills my brother has a 06 450r and let me tell you it is not a begginer quadwith the new 12:1 compression ratio piston that thng strait up hauls without any mods
if you want something that is quick just buy a used and modded 400ex I know there are plenty to choose from in California

i like the ride of the 400ex better but whos knows what you like but im probably moving up next year for racing
Posted by: MAD450r
My 450r sits higher and even when both were in stock form the 450r is higher.
Posted by: hondajoe05
im srry for posy=ting something wrong maybe it was jus adjusted for a smaller person? cuz im a big guy to 6'2 245 and it felt little to me for some reason

I was just stating my opinion. If you look at spec's the seat height is higher on the 450r.
