05 shifting worries

I have an 05 rappy 660 and when I shift from 1st to second and sometimes third it fills like im shifting with no clutch and also when the bike is cold and I shift down to first to take off it will sometimes stall. But heres the thing if I shift from first to second and hold the clutch lever for a few seconds and then shift it will shift with ease and without a loud chonk noise the clutch has about 8mm free play at the lever does anybody have an Idea of what the problem might be. thanks worried.
