i am going to sell my 300ex and i am thinking about buying a 250r or possibly a 400ex i was wondering how hard it is to rebuild the motor on an r and how often does it have to be done for recreational riding and occasional dunes and pit riding..... and also how dependable is it compared to the 400ex thanks

yo i was buyin a 400 for a long time and when i came across an r an i rode it...omfg its so fast...and it is a honda so dependability is there but also on the other hand the 400ex is a fuhkin tank but if u want an r to last make sure the motor is good and maintain it..i hear that u can go a few years with out a rebiuld if u ride like around in woods and dont do ne hardcore ridine (who the F*** does that) and if u ride it ont he track like a raped ape u should rebiuld it every season....so i cut it down the middle and say rebiuld after every year and make sure to change the gear oil and wat not...thats wat i have researched..hoppe that helps

piston are very easy to replace (2 hour job taking your time if you know what you are doing) and you have to do it every 40-50 hours on a built engine, if you want to save some futur trouble. You can change them after more hours, but you should check the piston to cylinder clearance to make sure it is less than 0,005''. Built 4 stroke don't last much longer and cost more to rebuild.

if i had the chance to buy an 86 r for 3000 would it be a good deal its not in that great of shape but i think that if i pay 3000 for it and put like 5-6000 in it that it would be a pretty good bike in the end

Not to be mean but how many suzukis or tecates do you still see runnin around. They were built at the latest 89 and they stilll R runnin It is not hard at all to maintain unless you are a pretty dumb person. IMO its ten times better than my 440ex. Iknow its way faster and it is only 10 over. I can even beat hrc450 hondas on top end. I just bought mine for 1500 and it is one bad *** beast. It is so much fun to ride!

What kind of pipe is on that 250 pictured. My Buddy has that same pipe on his 330r and we don't know what kind it is.
