i have a used rad valve thats not been on my bike yet , however one side of the carbon fibre reeds has a very small gap under parts of it , should i just turn the reed petals over ? or leave it / or are they shot ?

You can reverse them and they will work fine. If you have the extra cash I would just buy new reeds and be done with it.
