compression after rebuild?

my buddy recently had a new top end put in his bike, and when he first got it back the thing was dang hard to kick over like it had tons of compression. well after he has put some hours on it and broke it in, it is quite a bit easier to kick over now. Is this pretty typical with a break in, or is something not right?

it should get easier once broken in. if it changed alot though, i would do a compression test on it to make sure.

I would actually suspect the opposite. Most commonly, compression increases with the break-in, as the rings seat and seal a little better. However, it's usually only 5psi or so, not something you would easily feel.

When you assembled it did you lube the rings? I agree it sounds a little backwards
