Now that the Big 3 all have 450 machines and lets put Polaris and cannondale/ATK in the mix. what do you think would be the best overall bike based on the performance, durability, quality of the factory parts and materials, design innovation ect ect. How would you rate them? in each catagory I like the fact the polaris comes with steet braided lines, doulgas rims, suspension not like your everyday pogo stick that was probally better than the 400ex or Z400 at the time. . As with every bike there is always room for improvement. I sure hope Kawasaki comes out with there new Tecate 450 soon?????

i still believe that the honda is the best for duribility and quality, im not sure on the performance yet because i havnt ridden the 06 R or Z, but my 05 R is a beaughtiful piece of machinery.

I hear ya!

Posted by: trx400exxracer

if KTM comes out with one they will dominate if their quads will be as good as their bikes that is

Posted by: exrider44

I would like an original R myself. Hopefully soon I can pick one up for a project after I finish the 450r

Posted by: troutman561

why does everyone hate the 06' R now.. because its faster stock and everything is better?(except that gay head light) oh well nothing can be done to please some ppl.. its kinda like when the 05 400ex came out.. everyone hated on it for no reason.. oh well its the way of the world

Posted by: DaleJrFan

too early to tell. i need to ride them all and then i will let ya know what i think(like that worth anything-lol). waiting on the suzuki 450.

well the 06 is basically a drop in from the crf450x engine...which is more maintance to keep up with existon, rings every 20 or so hours.there is really nothing 2 great about the new motor that they couldnt of done to the 04/05 motor...i mean that motor is a proven winner undeniable

had an oil cooler which is great to help with additional cooling.I do like the new improvements to the 06 like swingarm spindles n all that i jus dont agree with the new motor seems to be just away to save some $$

jus my .02

Posted by: troutman561

yea but if something does break on it warrenty is a nice thing... unless a person mods it out with new pistoon and all that then it would happen anyways sooo... buy the warrenty

not a single person i know who runs a crf 450 motor (bike or quad) changes the rings every 20 hours. its just a higher compression motor with a different bore/stroke combination.

I would have to agree with you on that! And obviously they didn't need the oil cooler on the 06 because if it needed it, It would be on there.

Who actually puts a new piston and rings in every 20 hours? Thats like saying I change my oil after every hour of riding.

I don't know whether anyone has seen this but Dinli, (bought some of what ATK didnt from cannondale, mainly rights) is coming out with a 450, I should look into it harder but it is pretty much a Predator motor (fuji) in an all new frame with cannondale from geometry according to what i read and i believe some injected versions planned, however its 50 horsepower out of the box which isnt bad, right there with hondas new 450r option, i am really curious to see how it fares. As for the predator I have put a good amount of time on them and cant seem to like the things, just dont feel good, and the powertrain is not so impressive to me, like the cv carb, how about a flatslide? Polaris's first mistake though that is going to keep the predator out of the top is making it a 500 and not a 450, that wipes out alot of racers.

Posted by: DaleJrFan

it will be interesting to see the combo of polaris/ktm. i wonder what upgrades the predator will get?

Posted by: CDCHONDAS

yea speaking of polaris/ktm I find it interesting that in the original press release of them buying some of ktm they say that you wont see blue bikes and orange quads and a high performance quad would not be anytime soon but about a month or so ago i seen an article in a mag about some new quad, so i dont know whats up.

"The most noticeable change to all the 2006 450R Honda’s from stock was addition of a oil cooler, which was standard equipment until 2006."

Posted by: CannondaleRider

I'll stick with my Cannondale for now

And so will my team mates

Very good information...thank you for the link.

8 of the top 9 were honda 450r's. 1 was a DS650. Where's all the Yamahas? lol.

Posted by: allamonyfz450

i had the honda, you get what you pay for, thats why i switched over to the yfz

not to start anything but what do you mean by that because like they said in the baja 8 out of 9 were honda and the other was a ds so if yfz was so great why wasnt it there. but everyone has there own opinion.

do people buy a quad just because somebody changed every part on the factory one to make it race ready ? if they had to race a quad off the showroom floor and that many won I would be more impressed.that would be like buying a mote carlo because it won in nascar

well i guess u have never had one or u would really know....actually all u would have to do is open a service manual and its n bold lettering under routine maintance to keep the engine performance up...the reason for the change is because of the piston skirt is so lil that it wears out more often..but u kno all i kno nothing

the 400ex dirtwheels won on in 2000 was basiclcy stock (shocks, wheels, tires, exhaust and air filter. the 450r that won a year or two ago was stock, as were both of the honda rincon's that won and got third a year before the 450r came out
