It is funny you ask this question. Last week end I was out taking the R out for a ride when I met a guy on a Z400. He was talking about how he beat a TRX450R. I was like o really? He said yeah not a problem to beat the TRX450R. I said lets race my 265 cc R against your Z400. I asked him if he wanted to do a rolling start and he replied no just start from a dead stop. I gave him the jump and just plipped tha throttle to past him and was playing with the throttle just enough to stay 2 bikes in front of him. We raced a second time and I gave him the move and blew his doors off like 5-8 bike lenghts with ease. He was shocked how fast my R is. Its drag ported on race fuel. Never under estimate the all might TRX250R. LOL

The Z400 was piped and jetted with air filter, not stock.

I have a 86 R and a 05 CR450F HyBrid...and the Hybrid kills the R till about 4 th gear then the R hits 5th starts pulling and then 6th and its gonZo.

Stock vs. stock would be close, but the Z400 would be a tad faster in my opinion. My stock 250R with only a ESR TRX5 pipe, 38mm A/S carb, and CR reed cage is maybe a touch faster than a piped Z400. Remember, just adding a pipe to the 250R will give it double the HP gain that a pipe on a Z400 will. BONE STOCK The Z400 makes around 29-30 HP, the 250R about 26-27. The R is lighter, but only by around 25 lbs. Just this past Sunday I watched a piped raptor take 2-3 lengths on me through 5th gear, 3 races in a row, all from a roll, traction not limited. I know the raptor is faster than the Z400, but not by a mile. I ride with some friends who have a stock Z400, so hopefully in the next couple of weekends of riding, I'll get a chance to race that and compare. I would suspect my R as it is would take 2-4 lengths up to 5th or 6th gear against a stock Z400.
