What is the purpose of using a reed spacer plate???

They are suppose to get the reeds out of some of the turbulence inside the cylinder intake.From everything Ive seen,read,and noticed from using them,they help the motor on the bottom end some by giving a little more volume to what is already there.Some swear by them and some swear at them.ESR told me,"6 of one,half a dozen of the other",when I asked about putting one on my 310.

See I have Pyramid reeds and I have read that Duncan Racing does not recommend a spacer on their reeds. I am looking for something to give me more bottom end. I am going to install my high compression dome in the head for a little bit more power but what else can I do??

sometimes reed spacers are needed, I had to use one on my atc250r that has a lrd 310pv, cr250r rad valve, 38 a/s and using the stock intake tube. I needed that 1/2" and I was able to stretch the intake about another 1/2" by heating it evenly throughout the whole thing. Weather is does anthing, I don't know.
