ATVriders.com hit's Breezewood Proving Grounds!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Pappy

Located in the foothills of south western Pennslyvania, Breezewood Proving Grounds was opened to the public for recreational ATV riding at all levels. Owner Dan Harris, a devoted ATV enthusiest, is doing his best to offer riders and family a place to gather and ride. The track is located on 50 acres and features 3 MX tracks, a small oval track and a kids track.

Camping is allowed, both primitive and there are cabins available for rent. One feature that is not overlooked here is showers! Riding all day and being able to shower off is welcomed by everyone!

Owner Dan Harris is a quad guy, so when I rolled in I expected to see quad tracks, and he did not disappoint! Here is Dan airing out a stock and piped 400ex!

Posted by: Pappy

The main adult tracks are designed to offer riders of all abilities the chance to hone thier skills.

Dan explained..."I wanted jumps that anyone could do, but also wanted to design them so if a rider really wanted to go big he would have the chance"

Well, I am happy to say he succeeded. Most A level and Pro riders may find the jumps to tame, but even for that level, there is enough air to be had!

Dan airs out his 400ex over a 80 foot table!

Posted by: Pappy

Riding my 450R, my brother headed out to gather his own opinion of the tracks.

Upon entering the facility, the first track on your left is all tabletops. There is enough challenge in them to keep most riders more then happy.

Posted by: Pappy

There is always a good rythm to the layout, and on this track, only a few of the jumps were unable to be cleared by a handfull of riders. Ofcourse, just when you think you can't do it, along comes someone who shows you you can!

Posted by: Pappy

District 7 A Class points leader, ATVrider.com member and all around good guy, pgregg85 was on hand today and wasted no time getting accustomed to his YFZ.

Posted by: Pappy

There are not many tracks where you will find the owner joining in the fun, on the track and off! Dan's roots run deep in quad racing, and in hospitality.

Posted by: Pappy

A YFZ rider chases down a bike over a tabletop. Dan's residence is in the background. Now thats living right! Trackside anyone?

Posted by: Pappy

Everyone knows I am not a big air kind of guy, but was having a blast on this track. I only did not clear a few of the jumps, the rest had me smiling under my helmet, and a few UH OH's also

Improvements are never ending, with new jumps and layouts keeping returning riders facing new challenges.

Posted by: Pappy

The second track, is full of enough doubles and tripples to keep any rider on his or her toe's!

There are 2 jumps in particuliar on this track that I really like. The pictured table is hit full throttle coming out of a nicely bermed corner sending the rider high into the air!

Posted by: Pappy

The above pictured table, leads you right into what can be either a 30 foot step up, or if you hammer it, a 65 foot tripple that is actually one of the safest jumps I would consider ever doing. This jump has changed slightly since my first visit to this location, but it is for the better!

Posted by: Pappy

My younger brother hits one of the many rolling doubles found on this track

Posted by: Pappy

The kids track gets alot of use, with this facility being geared for family type fun. Children of all ages can tackle the track and parents have many places from which to keep an eye on the younger riders.

Posted by: Pappy

More expierenced youth riders will find this track tame, however that is not entirely bad. Dan allows yout riders who can manage the larger tracks the oppertunity to do so when the track is cleared for them. Mechanical issues kept Cody Hill from attempting a beautiful 60 foot down hill jump today, but we will return!

Posted by: Pappy

To wrap this up, I would like to thank Dan and his crew for making sure we were happy during our day of fun. This being Labor Day, they cooked an entire pig to serve to everyone for lunch! oh, your track doesnt do that, for FREE? Then maybe you should keep an eye on Breezewood Proving Grounds website for upcoming events

Dan told me that they will be also holding INDOOR pit bike races this fall, so if you are looking for a weekend of fun, dont hesitate to give this place a try!

i really wish my dad had a trailor for our quads

Posted by: cdrookie

what about price?
requirements? both person and machine.
do they have any water to hose down the track if it gets dusty? operating hours? does the tracks get rough and choppy fast? hardpack? what about safety? any flaggers or is visibility good enough to see incidents? food any good? convenience store/gas station near by?

i guess i could just go to their web site instead of asking all these questions.

yep, thats why i included it in the opening sentence.

as far as the track conditions,
the tracks held up great today i thought, especially this being the 2nd day of high turn out. it got dusty as one would expect, but they came along with the water truck and it was ready to rip on again.

Posted by: wppracing

And here is Dan keeping the dust down......

Posted by: wppracing

Here is 2 pictures of me and my WppRacing 450R . Today was another perfect day for riding.

Great report Pappy. I've been there 2-3 times now and the hospitality is unbelievable. Dan and staff are well on there way to providing a great place to ride as well as a place to relax for a weekend. I was up for the grand opening weekend and there was events for the kids, a pig roast and other activities for everyone. I would recommend this place for anyone who enjoys riding!!!

Posted by: wppracing

Anyone going this weekend? I will be there Saturday...

Posted by: Pappy

there should be several riders there from our group. me and cody may show up if we can get this new mini together friday night for some test and tune.

Can't make it this Saturday but Pappy & Kevin. Let me know if you guys plan any other trips out there and we will try to make it out. Pretty sad that I grew up with Dan and haven't made it out there yet.

Adam

Posted by: wppracing

Stop by when you guys get there. I will have my company signs on my truck. I ride #36 450R

If you want you can take it for a ride and see the Pulse Charger with the Tork Tube and HH 13.75 Piston.

Posted by: cletusEX

I'll be there. Look for the black 450r in a gray F-150. Later guys

Posted by: wppracing

Just got back from a great day riding at Breezewood.
Nice to meet some new people from this site.

Posted by: RIDER11X

not sure if he did or not, i told him to look up my bro if he went. we never made it, wrenched on the mini till 9 pm saturday night

Posted by: Kilabanshee

How come I wasn't invited haha. That looks like a nice track. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime in October.

Posted by: Pappy

its a real nice place. id like to get a atvriders.com ride there scheduled before winter sets in. anyone up for it?

i can get Dan to offer some things, they cook some good food and im sure getting the gate fee reduced wont be an issue.

Posted by: Crazy Honda

Yea I was there with the black yfz my but hurts. It was a good time. And a nice day.

Posted by: Crazy Honda

This fellow was ripping the track up fast and going big

Posted by: ESrider

Pappy,

That sounds like a great place for a group ride, let us know if you are able to put something together.

doing the ride with breezewood is the eas part. picking a weekend is the hard part

Posted by: TWISTED

2nd week in Oct sounds GREAT to me!!! Just bring more of the rice stuff... My wife drew the line when she saw crawdads in the recipe!!!

Posted by: Pappy

man, you guys need to "learn" yer women

the good part is that it looks like alot more members are riding there and the word is getting out about the track. i will see what the race schedule is looking like, im pretty sure there is a gncc the 2nd and 4th weekend of oct.

i can always cook up some grub, i only live an hour from there

Posted by: Kilabanshee

Pappy your hot wings at Rausch were banging. I was really pissed when they were all gone!

Posted by: Pappy

truthfully, i can do better i had so much going on at the end i did not have time to finish some of the things the way i like. the wings should have spent about 5 minutes on the grill to cahr the skin and then the suace would have been reduced and more flavoring added for a true dipping sauce.

next ride....

Posted by: Crazy Honda

Lets not be to quick on this ride I need time to get things put back together...lol P.S. Dont let rider11x ride your quad Good news it looks like just the sub frame throttle and stem.

Posted by: TWISTED

Hell with a ride, let's go to Pappy's to eat!!!! Pigsickles, rice stuff, and deer meat.... HELL YEAH!!!!

Posted by: KH426

How about oct.8 and 9, thats Breezewoods fall fest. Pappy's grub plus a pig roast

Posted by: TWISTED

Sound's good to me!!!!

Posted by: Pappy

we have a gncc on that saturday, but could easily come straight there from ohio and stay the night

Posted by: ninis470

wow. that is an awsome park. we have nothing like that here in california. i'm jealous....

Posted by: mxdad

We can't do the 8th/9th weekend either. What about the weekend after that, Oct 15th & 16th?

Posted by: hondaracer31

I'll be there Oct. 14-16. Can't wait to get back on a track!

Posted by: Kilabanshee

I'll try to make it there on the 16th.

Posted by: wppracing

I will be there on Oct 1 and Oct 15 (saturdays) Be at the Ravens game on Sundays

Posted by: KH426

The 15th and 16th sound good to me. I know a few others will be coming with me.

Posted by: cletusEX

I might be able to make it the 16th. All depends on the weather and how many deer I have in the freezer by then.

Posted by: KH426

Get a spot light and come on, Then we go ride LOL. By the way we take your truck

Posted by: cletusEX

We support those who support us.

Posted by: wppracing

I will be at the track on Saturday( if its not raining ) and will have a DB Meter. If anyone wants to check the sound level of there quad, let me know I will have my truck/trailer with my company sign on it.

Posted by: Xrider06

i was there for the first time today but i was just watching with my friend. I cant wait til i get to ride there next spring. i think the fastest quad there that i saw was the guy on the stock 06 yfz. He jumped about everything there when i was watching him.

Posted by: diangelo#67

I ended up going racing @tomahawk and broke my friggin sub-frame

Posted by: wppracing

Anyone going to Breezewood this weekend?
Talked to Dan yesterday and he said the track is in great shape and will get better each day.

Posted by: wppracing

Its was alittle cold when I got there , but the day got warmer and the trck was what I think in the best shape ever. Perfect traction and no dust. We all know that DAN LOVES TO WATER the track. He never started it up. Today should be as good if not better.

Time to get ready and finish adjusting the front shock.

Posted by: deathman53

anybody know if breezewood allows trikes? I'm getting conflicting info and they even show a pic of the 85/86 250r atc hitting a double, but on the phone they say they don't allow trikes???

Posted by: Les Davis

I've seen an old tri-z running around up there one day but never saw it on the actual track itself. I would call Dan Harris and ask him directly. He's a straight shooter and will set you right. Good luck.

Posted by: Honda MaNiAc 01

Pappy can we schedule another ride this spring or summer

I was unable to go to the last one due to a broken bone and ive heard nothing but good things about this place

Posted by: Yfz450dan

So can we set up a new group ride for this year?
Sometime this spring or summer?

Hopefully this year we can get even more people to come!!!
What do you guys think.

Posted by: hondaracer31

I'll be there July 4th. Can't miss the couch race!

Posted by: KH426

There is a 4 or 5 of us going march 17 - 19 weather permitting

Posted by: 05_KFX

I'll be there all three days......

Posted by: Les Davis

I'll be there opening weekend as well with atleast 3 friends for Saturday and Sunday as well.

05 KFX I see your from good ole Fredneck. Me and my buddies are from Frederick also, maybe we'll catch up with you there.

Posted by: jaspurx

It`s about time again!

Posted by: Yfz450dan

Anyone get the membership this year?
I got mine today!

Posted by: 05_KFX

Les Davis sounds good I will b up there all 3 days. I have not got a chance yet to change my settings, I now live in WV but I am nly 25 min. from Fred. and I still work there....

Posted by: cletusEX

Sounds good.I'll see you guys there Sunday.

Posted by: dan harris

Thanks to the 80 couple riders that showed up today to break in the new jumps ! It was a great time.

Posted by: Pappy

Dan, we were loading up today when a buddy dropped off his ASV, I have 2 days to use it for free so I have to bail on coming up

WE WILL BE THERE NEXT WEEKEND SO GET READY! LOTS OF PEOPLE COMING!

Posted by: wppracing

I will be at the track Saturday and Sunday. I hope to get the Elkas dialed in.

Posted by: Yfz450dan

I will be up there Saturday!
Cant wate!

Posted by: dan harris

You guys are gonna love the new jumps that have been popping up at the park. In addition to the New 65' Uphill jump and the filled in big double on the upper track, I just added a new 40' table top that is next to the new uphill jump giving you an option to go around the massive jump, after you land that you make the left hander and again you have the option of a 60' double with a big gully in the middle or a safer 40' double that is pretty safe for a double. On the upper track there is also a new 40' tabletop where the whoops were.

Tracks are in great shape, draining very well. The ground is hard pack, with no ruts or breaking bumps left over from all the riders last weekend.

This weekend is the spring opener celebration with a FREE PIG ROAST on SUNDAY ! Indoor Pitbike races Saturday Night.

I hope to ride with you all this weekend.

Posted by: Pappy

whoohoo cant wait!

Posted by: cletusEX

Maybe I'll have to come up Sat again. The track was in awesome shape last week. Got my brother back on the bike after a few month let off (that's always a little scare cause he tends to air it out, especially on his little bro's bike )

Posted by: wppracing

I will be at Breezewood on Saturday and Sunday.
I will have my sound(DB) test meter with me. If you want to test the sound level of your exhaust please see me. I have a trailer with my logo on it and #36 on the quad.

see you tomorrow.

I think my 450r part should be in sometime this comming Friday. I'll probably be at breezewoods breaking in the motor. If I'm there I'll make sure to get some good pictures.

Posted by: dan harris

Hey yfz450 dan,

Glad you had a good time riding today, great pictures. I guess the cold temps and the weather men calling for rain kept everyone away today. Its suppose to be much warmer this coming weekend. I've got some changes planned for the upper track this week that I'm sure everyone will like.

Posted by: 05_KFX

Dan, Kevin and I (Casey) are planning on coming up every other Sat. for this summer weather permiting. Also we enjoyed the cabin the other weekend and that HOG was on it. All though the weather was cool we had a BLAST

Dan, as usual great job on the tracks. We just got home, only 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Posted by: Yfz450dan

Yeah i think the calling for rain scared people away, but as soon as it gets warm the park is going to be packed this year!Breezewood is a Great place to ride.

Posted by: dan harris

Barry,

it was great having you this weekend, looks like your buddy isn't the only one who was getting killer pictures of you hittin' all our jumps on they ol' faithfull EX !!!

Better weather is on the way, and your right yfz dan the park is going to be off the hook this summer. Our cabin rental is available this weekend if anyone is interested - its booked the next 5 weekends after that ?????

Hope to ride with everyone this weekend.

Posted by: Yfz450dan

Hey dan,
Are you planing on making any new changes on the first track by the dining hall in the next week or so?

Posted by: dan harris

Hey yfz450

Right now I'm working on some changes on the upper track that will take a couple days. After that I need to take my loader in for some major repairs so it may take a couple weeks before I make more changes. you'll like what I'm making right now on the upper track, theres a whole new "shakane" section.

Hope to see you here enjoying the great weather and riding this weekend.

ON A SCALE OF 1-10(10 BEING THE HIGHTEST) WAT WOULD YOU RATE ST.JOE STATE PARK OUT OF PARK HILLS,MO

Pappy, Whats the latest on setting up an atvriders ride at the Park. I'm getting emails almost daily asking when is it?????

Give me a call so we can set it up. Spoke to Harlan at the Nat's he said to work it out with you. Hope to hear from you soon.

Everyone seems to think end of April/Early May.

What dates work best for you?

Posted by: ballz2thewall

What about the middle of May, second or third weekend? Whenever it is I will be there I will just have to make up my drill dates then!

Posted by: dan harris

End of April sounds good if your thinking the weekend of the 22nd keep in mind the quad nationals are the following weekend ? Not sure if that would hurt the turnout?? The first weekend in May the 6th and 7th might be better - giving us more time to get the word out. Your Call Anytime in that area works for me and I can have the tracks hooked up for some awesome quad action. For atv riders I'll give a price break of one day for $30 and two days for $40. No charge for spectators that weekend. And if you still wanna do the cookin I'll provide a pig and cooker for a free lunch on sunday.

Pick a weekend and post it, then we'll get the word out and have the tracks and park ready. I'm really looking forward to having all the quads at my park.

The first weekend in May sounds fine with me.

Ok folks...it's on

BPG RIDE THREAD

Posted by: ballz2thewall

Dan, did you still want me to provide the pig? If you do I will call the butcher to get it preped a day or two before!

Posted by: dan harris

Yes that would be awesome, email me at breezewoodprovinggrounds@yahoo.com and send your phone number so we can hash out the details of getting it here, keeping it cold etc...

Posted by: Pappy

and please post the dressed weight of that hog please

Posted by: ballz2thewall

Here's the deal, it's at my father in-laws place, which isn't far from BPG. The last time I talked to him which was around the end of March he said that the hog was around 175 and by the end of april it should be between 200 and 225. Which he said it would feed 100+ people easily. He's the farmer so I will take his word for it!

Wow this place sounds awesome! And its not far from me at all. I live right between Hagerstown and Frederick, so its not a long drive at all. Ive been to breezewood a thousand times too. I actually saw a bunch of flyers for this place in Dutrow's Honda down in Frederick when I was in there gettin new rear tires. Im definatley goin to have to check this place out!

Posted by: Pappy

we are having a big ride there this weekend, you should try and make it up

Posted by: dan harris

I've been working hard making sure the track is ready for this weekend. We had 6 tri-axle dump truck loads of mulch brought in today and expect 10 more tomorrow.

Posted by: dan harris

I really appreciate all the quad riders who have been here. Every weekend we are seeing more and more quads. Thank you for your support, I hope everyone makes it out this weekend to enjoy the park and pig roast on Sunday.

Posted by: dan harris

Pappy its a good thing you took my bike for that awesome rebuild. Not just cause the bike was falling apart, but even with my shoulder not totally healed, theres no way I would of been able to resist riding this fresh mulch.

Posted by: Pappy

You dont think I thought of your shoulder when we took your quad away heal up chump, you dont win races hurtin
