shifting question...

The very first quad that I have ever driven, was a 06 blaster. My friend took me up to the mountains, and I drove it the whole weekend. I was getting really good with shifting, up and down. I was also getting good at shifting down when going through turns at a slow enough speed, something that my friend didn't really like to do. I went about 45mph on it, and I am familiar with the power that these quds have.

The question that I have is I know when I shifted on the blaster, if you held the clutch in, shifted all the way down to first, then you slightly tapped up from first, you would hit neutral. Is that how the 400ex is, in fact is that how all quads are?

If not, then how does it work? Is it something that I will have to get used to all over again, or is it the same exact thing, excepty with more power?

yes thats how a 400ex is, and any quad that is manual.

only thing diffrent from the shift patterns on a balster and a 400ex is that a blaster has 6 gears and a 400ex has 5...

is that an advantage?
having 6 grears?

Zackie-

Having six gears is an advantage, however with the power of the 400ex, it will seem like you have six gears because it is so fast. It has six gears so you can get mroe top end, however, the blaster is 200cc, and the 400ex, well 400, lol. So because the power of the 200 rather to the 400 is less, the 200cc will need more gears to get it up to its speed faster, where with a 400cc, its so powerful that you dont need six gears.

get what I'm saying?

absolutly at 5 gears a 200cc engine couldn't push 5 high enough.. so it needed another gear to easy the stress of the rpm's... Since the 400ex has the power.. its has the ability to push more..

am i right or way off?

Couldn't have said it any better myself...

The blaster has 6 really closely spaced gears. The top speed is say maybe 50 if your lucky on a blaster. A 400ex with 5 gears is topping out at around 67. The blaster has really closely spaced gears to keep the underpowered engine in the powerband. Just because it has more gears doens't make it faster. Having 6 is necessary to get any amount of top speed out of it because they are spaced so closely togther.
