When and why would I have to change my jets to bigger ones? What do they do, and are they easy to install?

Jets are what controls your air/fuel mixture. You change to bigger jets when installing a new pipe, or airfilter, anything that changes how much air and fuel the motor needs to run right. bigger bores, ect.

Is that something I could install myself?

Yes, its not hard at all to change jets. Its more of a pain getting them perfect. There are different sizes, and there are different jets, there is a pilot jet, and a main jet. pilot sizes are like 50, ect. and main jets are like 140-150 ect. each jet controls a different part of the throttle, I believe the pilot gos up to like half throttle then the main jet takes over from there. but i'm not positive on that. I haven't got to play with a carb for awhile, hah

pilot is maily up to 1/4 throttle. The main jet is good for from 3/4 thru full throttle. the the needle controls from 1/4 to 3/4. i think thi is right, but dont hold me to it. Usually when you change a pipe or airfilter. you may have to move clips on the needle and go up on your main jet.

How much will these cost me depending on size?

Posted by: underpowered

at most shops they are about 4-5 dollars each. all sizes should be the same price.

Oh okay, I thought they would be hundreds of dollars, thats not bad at all. I think thats worth installing your own jets.

Not quite. Yes if your only doing a main, but you also should be doing needle clip movements and pilot jet changes, in which case you should remove the carb.
