Oil in Airbox ('04) Help !!

Hey guys. I'm writing this for a friend of mine. He owns an 04 450r. And, it's using oil. After a 3 hour ride, oil needs added. Yet, you can't see it smoking. He is getting oil in the airbox. And, it appears to be coming from the tube which shoves against the air filter (crankcase breather?).

Anyway, has this happened to anyone else on here?
I've heard of the 05's spitting oil into the airbox, when the crank bearing goes out. But, if that was the case, i'd think he would be hearing strange noises and/or the bike wouldn't run at all.

Let me know, what you guys think.

Does he do wheelies or stand it up on the grab bar alot? I noticed when I stood mine up on the grab bar to wash the underside of the machine oil would come out of the crankcase breather.

I have an 04 built with big valve ported piped and crf ignition. and I had a ton of oil in the airbox after my first moto. I tore it down and found out I had a cracked cylinder. My coolant was way down also. So check your levels. It had been starting harder and harder. I have heard of a few cracked jugs. Good Luck

yer i seamed to lose a ton of oil when mine why stood up in the garage im guessing its just an overflow because i lost loads but its stil near full in the window.

that is the vent for the motor. it is building up in the motor. make sure he have not hooked the little case vent to the carb. there is a spout on top of the carb that is pluged in the casting. and that vent runs next to it. people think your suppost to plug it in. it is just a vent unplug it from the top of the carb. (i did this my self )

Also, and I don't know if this would actually cause this, but he might be filling the engine oil too much. Some ppl tend to fill the oil and then start the motor, as the oil runs out of the site window they add more thus overfilling the crank case. The oil needs to be at top level with the engine off and on level ground.

The vent hose that Super talked about is also something ppl mistake as a tube that needs to be fitted to the carbs empty fitting. The carb fitting is a dead end and the hose that comes from the engine has a seperate hole in the plastic above the carb for it to fit into.

Although I have not had it happen and I have had the bike transported standing up, washed too, some ppl have reported losing oil after doing so or ending up with mixed trans and engine oil in the crank case. I think it is a breather line or gasket that seperates the trans from the motor that lets the oils mix when stood up. Don't quote me on that.
