how do i tell an 02 raptor really is 2002 model?
it is black and white with yellow shocks.
where are the serial numbers on the frame and engine? and will they tell me.

i currently have a 400ex and have made an offer on this 02 raptor (there alot more expensive in the uk!)
any faults i should look out for any basic checks i should do on the gear box / engine?

all help greatfully recieved.

I use to own a '02 raptor and I loved it. The VIN # is located on the frame just under the foot pegs. The engine has a stamp on the right side with the engine#. The '02 raptor only had one problem with it and that was the Starter Clutch going out. Start the quad and let it run for a little bit and then kill the engine if you hear a "clunk" noise then the starter clutch is going bad. once you start is and kill it try to start it again and see if you have any problems starting it again. A new starter cluch (OEM) installed will run you about $300-400. If you buy the good aftermarket one it will run you about $600.

all years of Raptors have that problem. (the 660R model)

An easy way to tell if it's newer
than a 01 is the new ones have
a piggy back rear shock

The springs are yellow on the 2002 and the springs are white on the 2001.

I have an '01 that has the piggy back shock.A friend has an '01 with remote resevoir.I also have the reverse rev limiter even though some people think '01's didn't have a reverse rev limiter.Your best bet is to check the vin#
