I need to find out what year my R is, I have the vin off of it. Is there a site that can tell me what year it is? I need A arm bushings so I need the year. It says 86 is different from and 87 I know mine is 1 of those 2 years. Thanks RAY

86-87 have the vin # on the lower left of the subframe

88-89 on front inbetween the front shock mounts on front of the frame

86 aarm bushings are bigger than 87 if that helps, 87 also has little heim style bushings compared to 86

WOW, I traded a warrior for this thing, its in rough shape, for example it needs alot of maintenence but a clean quad and I thought it was an 86 or 87, From what I learned today it is an 88! SWEET! thanks for all the help!

Look at the 10th digit in the v.i.n:
G= 86
H= 87
J= 88
K= 89

Im almost positive these are correct

It is a J , a web site said it is an 88...........

here is a recap of how I got this thing, I had an 89 zilla.... it was all apart, and traded it for a 96 Warrior. I put about 100 bucks into that and traded it for the R that needs carrier bearings, 2 tie rod ends and a arm bushings. so far I have about 600 in this thing!!!! I love it.

Wish I could find deals like that.

seems that the sweet deals always seem to pass me by. I'm actually on the hunt for a deal. Looking for another project or an R in need of TLC. Guess I'll have to sit back and wait for awhile

well, this 1 is going to be for sale pretty soon............ I am doing alot of little stuff to this thing so I'll obviously need more than I paid for it the warior was actually pretty nice and ran good. I want to work up to a 450 R then I'll be happy.

I think you would be quite happy with your 88r.

I second that! Nothing better than a 88-89 R that you can beat the dog snot out of!

Aye. Updrade to a 450r???

The 250r is the upgrade The pro's mainly run the 450's because the aren't allowed to run the 250r's anymore.

I'd keep the 250, but heck, if you want a 4 stroke, I'll trade you my 330.

I wish I could trade my 400ex for a 88-89r

whats the best year r? i heard the 86 is the best cuz the frame is stronger or something. How much u lookin to get outa that r? i have family around dayton that could get it from u if i bought it.

Posted by: ltz4002k3

from what I know, 86 and 87 is longer the swingarms are shorter on the 88 and 89. I have done alot of work to this thing, and it really rips now. I weigh 250 lbs and my buddy weighs 160 and his 440 EX cant touch this thing in a race. I still have a few things to do to it. I also picked up an extra set of plastic. I am going to ask 2200 for it

Posted by: Jingle #11

do you have any pics?

Posted by: ltz4002k3

here is 1 pic, the front tire is off because I have that caliper off rebuilding it

Posted by: ltz4002k3

now these pics were taken with my cell phone so they arent that good

Posted by: Jingle #11

so is there anything wrong with this thing? hows the engine? frame?

Posted by: ltz4002k3

frame looks good and the engine is strong..... i am fixing everything that is mechanically wrong or bad
