I didnt think there was a difference in 86-87 and 88-89 engine case halves but service honda has different part numbers for the 86-87 and 88-89 case halves.

Can someone tell me the difference, and if I could use any year Left case halve as a replacement for the one I have????

The 86-87 case halves are gray and come with bearings.
The 88-89 case halves are black and you have to buy the bearings separately.

Get the 86-87 cases, they are a better deal for the money, and there are no other significant diffences between the years.

just make sure both are the same year . Front engine mount is different on the cases. Same location just cut different

What does that matter ??

88-89 cases are better!! They are thicker on the bottom of the crank area for mor positive gasket sealing !!

You can mix match any year if you wish !! The front cut means nothing !!

Your right you can mix match, so call me picky or even assnine but I prefer to have everything match perfect ...

atleast the center cases are 88-89. couldn't tell you what you have internally. Only way to tell for sure is to take it apart and see what you have. (e.g on mine I have center cases from an 85' but everything else is is 88') There are little things that will give you some idea. I think the only 2 big changes were the rod length, and 6th gear. 85-86 had one more tooth on the main and counter shaft 6 gear.
