i have a 99 400ex with a hmf slip on and a 14 tooth sproket in the front what do u guys think my top speed will be????

Posted by: jak1389

man i hate threads like these.

Posted by: 400exdave

um with that smaller front sprocket, i'd have to say maybe 57-59 mph maybe

Posted by: 400xe1999

are u dumb a 300ex goes 57 ....and the 14 tooth is for more top end so there is sumthin wrong with your head a stock 400ex goes like 65

Posted by: TwentyBelow131

A 14 tooth is for more accelertaion. 64mph according to this.

http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/400ex.htm

Posted by: 400xe1999

and a 250ex goes like 53 54 and i doudbt a 400ex is only 3 mph faster....so before you say sumthin......think

Posted by: 400xe1999

yea i knew it went around 65.....thinks for helping me out

Posted by: 400exc

a smaller sproket is only for more axxeleration, exactally, but it shouldnt ruin the speed, but dont go yellin at 400ex dave

Posted by: Crazy400EX

in his sig it says he has 22's so it would be around 70

With a 14 tooth? Ya right dude!

I'm thinkin about 63 tops. Mine didn't do anywhere near 60 with my 14 tooth and 20's....or atleast it didn't feel like it.

Posted by: Crazy400EX

type it in the thingy there

Posted by: 400exc

mine went round 72 with stock sproket, and only a K&N filter, why does all of urs only go like 65?

A 14 tooth front sprocket is not for top end dummy. It is for more torque and acceleration and it will actually go slower than a stock quad since the stocker has a 15T front sprocket.

Posted by: reddeisel

yeah the 14 thooth is for the lower gears so think before you call the guy dumb

uhh... look einstein.... sit back down, take your ritalin and use a pencil before you pipe in on info that your obviously not up on..

anyone with a slight mechanical aptitude will tell you that its going to be slower than a stock setup.. (i mightve used too many big words and lost him though..)

to answer the question...
i weigh 190 w/gear, have some "meaty" 22inch 4ply tires on the rear(a heavier tire like yours), 14t/38t sprocket setup and i run my tires at around 3.0 to 3.5lbs..

id guess i get low 60's on flat, hard packed dirt and im sure ill gain some on asphalt..

if i tighten up the tires, hand the key to my 10yr old and point him down the pavement, im sure itll see about 70.. (but thats not very likely to happen..)

yeah

i have 22's and stock sprocket and have just had mine 72

Posted by: eslride1

ok this is NOT the setup i have on my 400 but according to http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/400ex.htm if you take a stock 400ex and put a white bros rev kit in it (allowing it to rev to 10300 supposably), put 22" tires on it, a 16 tooth front sprocket and a 36 tooth rear sprocket then it will go 106 mph i dont find that possible at all and it says that completely stock it will go 77 which is just 2 mph behind the 450r (in reality) i realize that the 450r is geared for acceleration a lot more then top speed but that doesnt't possible that a stock 400ex is only 2 mph slower then a stock 450r at top speed so someone please let me know if they use that website and get a result they think is accurate

I think the more varibles that you add like a rev kit and more and more sprocket changes the more it takes away from the accuracy, I think that site is mostly for stock engines with small sprocket and tire alterations.JMO

lets see here....... the 14 tooth front sprocket takes away alot of top end but gives alot of bottom end. So think before you say something.. I have a 14t front sproket and itl only run like 50 somethin.

Posted by: muddy400EX

haha this is funny. this guy calls other people dumb but then says that a smaller front sprocket adds top end with that 14 its not gonna have a very high top end but the huge tires you have might give it some top end so its prolly around stock top speed
