My bike overheated a couple days ago but we turned it off in time to save everything so its all fine, we had been riding all day in 103 degree weather, but my question is, is there anything i need to replace or fix so this doesnt happen again? We put more coolant in it and changed the oil, anything else i should do?

check your coolant track for air bubbles by draining an slowly refilling the rad. that can cause overheating
check the water impeller for damage or worn parts, if there is replace immediatly
make sure your radiator isnt clogged with mud, or debri
cheack tube for blockage, it would be hard for something to get in there, but its worth a try
if all else fails try some different coolant, engine ic is the bomb
o yah, check to see if you rad fan still comes on, it could be an electrical problem, and when you cruise slow, it would overheat because it cant get enough air flow

we checked it to c if it was clogged, it wasnt, we also are putting engine ice in it, and the radiator fan still does come on and turn off like normal, we will check the water impeller and check for bubbles though, thanks

i was having all kind of overheating problems for like the last two months. we checked everything we could think of and drained/changed all fluids and it was still overheating. I ended up taking it back to the dealer and he took all the plastic off and said i had mud caked into parts of the radiator that you can't really get to unless you take everything off and really clean it out. ever since he cleaned it - it seems to be running OK and not overheating anymore, so i guess that was it, but i powerwashed the crap out of it many times before and keep my bike pretty clean and couldn't see any mud in there, i can't really believe all my troubles were just caused by mud in the rad

wow that is interesting, it was kinda muddy when we were riding also, may have been my problem, i keep my bike clean also, and powerwash it, i might have to take a look at that

yeah, all my troubles started after the GNCC john penton mud race - it didn't overheat during the race (or else i just didn't notice it cause i couldn't see anything there anyways) but i think the very next race after that is when it started doing it.
maybe that real fine clay they have there got packed into it or something, or maybe that particular radiator has real tight fins on it - i never really compared it to any other bikes.
oh yeah, i also put engine ice in it and it definitely ran cooler at startup, but it still overheated on me - it just took longer for it to happen. another thing i forgot about was that mine would only get to the verge of overheating after running for an extended period of time like 45mins to an hour - then it would overheat, i'd shut it down let it cool for like 5 min, then it would overheat again after i rode it for like 5 or 10min and continue to do that until i left it cool for a long time (like an hour or so).

wouldnt it not run? my bike still runs perfectly fine

I would think that it could crack and still run. it could have a small hair line crack and be pumping presure in the radiator. its just a thought I'm not saying thats what is wrong
