Just did another oil change and took it out for a short spin when my friend yells. Hey there's oil on the side by your chain guard
so I thought what did I leave loose. Cant find anything loose cant see hwere the oil is coming from. It appears to be coming out from my center cases. Needless to say it'll be going in to the dealer tuesday.

I have about 60-70 hours on my 04 450r.

Has anyone else seen this, and if so what was it, if I refill the oil side and start it up there is no added noise. I dont get it myself unless the motor itself is shaking itself loose.

drain the oil and measure how much comes out, theres a chance you over filled it.

Posted by: MAD450r

the glass was showing nothing in it then I refilled it and watched it drip out, onto the stock engine skid plate
seems the center cases were seperating. No added engire noise.

if you overfill it, is there a chance for it pump itself out? I was riding with a guy yesterday and it spewed oil everywhere, but we couldnt find where it was coming from.

Posted by: MAD450r

well I looked and I cant find where its coming out either. I did try to refill it after and as soonas I started it again I seen it dripping out again.

Did it drip untill it was emtpy ?

dumb question but do yo ulube your chain with wd 40 or something like that?
I lubed my chain just before I rode once with wd40, and it flings dirt that looks just lik engine oil around the shift shaft.

I thought I blew the oil seal but it was just lubing the chain.

lolol rolflmao!...sorry that just was funny to me. its better to use the honda chain lube. i have heard that wd40 will ruin the o-rings after a period of time

as for knowing if its oil or not, its very easy to tell when the glass window show's its empty

not sure if it dripped till it was bone dry since we seem to have caught it right away. It got all over my and my freinds riding boots

I first seen it on the chain and front sproket so I did think it was the countershaft sproket seal that went. But its not since it running around to the front bottom where the center cases meat

Thanks for the reply's guys. I really had no idea what was going on. I have never seen that happen on my 400ex or my older 200x's

try taking your skid plate off and wiping the bottom of the cases clean, the sit and watch for a little while to see if ne more oil comes out, some times if you accidently spill some oil it will get to the skid plate a slowly drip for weeks making it look like you looseing oil

Posted by: MAD450r

Just dropped it off at the dealer. They say they haven't seen this yet so I guess i'll find out at the end of the week what exactly happened.

Posted by: plkmonster2

Is it showing empty running, or off? If it is running, and it is empty, that is normal. Don't put more oil in to top it off when running.

Posted by: MAD450r

I rode for 20-30 minutes then I stopped to let a freind try it, he says there's oil on the side and on your boots

I'll let people know at the end of the week what it is wrong.

Check your right ceter case half behind the kick starter. My buddies cracked there and it was leaking there. There is a casting where his cracked. It is also an 04. One good thing Honda did pick up the new case half, they only did this because there was an obvious redesign in this area, so he argued that they knew something was wrong, or why change it. It was very hard to see until the engine was apart, but it did crack.

Turns out my sidecase was loosening up.

Guess im too rough on my 450r, it vibrates more and loosen's bolts more than my 400ex ever does.

What are you talking about?

Posted by: Pappy

im talking about the 450R is a vibration monster and likes to shake stuff loose! and what it doesnt shake loose tends to not come apart(i.e. the real cheezy brass inserts on teh gas tank that freespin and you end up with a trashed stock tank!)

Posted by: MR.BIG

True but I have had no problems with mine yet. The only thing that is cheesy is those stupid pushpins. Oh by the way honda's rule!

Today my freind and I were just messing around on his track. For once there wasn't a bunch of us out there so we weren't totally paying attention to where eachother was. So to make a long story short we hit head on.

My 416ex's upper right lonestar racearm took a dent. My 450r's bumper bent again. and my burgard got scratched.

Will lonestar sell me just the upper right a-arm in triple crome again. [upper right when sitting on the atv]
