Hey I went to the dealer by me to get chain lube and he told me that i was better off using the maxima chain guard lube instead of the chain wax. He said the chain wax collects all dust where as this one doesnt. What do you all run for chain lube and should i have gotten the chain wax or is the chain guard fine?

Thanks in advance

On O-ring chains, I use WD-40!

Posted by: Winged Warrior

wd has solvent in it i think ,it will RUIN your "O" rings!!

Posted by: nakomis0

I use wd-40 and chain wax. I don't know much about collecting dust. I think if it was a thick grease it could collect sand and dirt and cause a lil more wear.

erm.. that reminds me.. i gotta go oil my chain
:square

ps. WD-40 is a degreaser, I don't think its a solvent for rubber?

sol·vent Pronunciation Key (slvnt, sôl-)
adj.
.
Chemistry. Capable of dissolving another substance.

i use the chain wax

I use Chainwax Also.
Wd 40 won't hurt your o-rings , I've used it many times , it actually moisturized them. The only thing wrong with it is that it doesn't stay on very well on wet rides.

I run spectro SX chain lube/praservative. it works alright, but you can't put it on and wait to ride till it looks dry, you have to let it sit for a while, I let mine sit for over an hour. otherwise the lube flings all over my plastics, frame, air box...etc. it's a pain in @ss to clean up!

i use Maxima Chain Wax, it works great for me, and stays on a WHILE it seems like to me, i havent had that much problem with collecting dust at all. in fact the dealer is the one who recommended it OVER pj1, and the chain wax was CHEAPER.... he said they use chain wax in their shop on their quads, but anyways from a personal use standpoint, it works perfectly for my needs

It's all 6 of one Half a dozen of another. All the products work. Lube or wax will do the job...and dust will stick to either. How do you think i feel since all i do is ride in the sand? Just wax or lube your chain regularly...let it sit for a little while...and clean it off if you get some spare time. Simple green and those little chain cleaner things that rockymountainatv sells works wonders.

Is WD40 Okay to use on my non o-ring chain??????????

Posted by: -=Skot=-

wd-40 is pretty much crap, ok for short period of time but it is alcohol based product ans evaporates rather quickly, try PJ1 lube, works pretty good and doesen't make a mess

Posted by: 2002_300_EX

i use pj1 and it works fine for me

Posted by: VegasEx'r

I use Maxima chain wax & have no problems. Just make sure your chain is clean before you put it on, otherwise any junk will be very hard to get off once you've sprayed it over.

i just got my silkoline full synthetic chain lube in yesterday and it whoops majorly. it sprays on and sticks , plus its clear and not whatever color that PJ1 is.it looks like its gonna stay pretty good , heck , i even threw a shot of it on my a arms and steering stem :devil

what is the best lube that doesnt leave a film on ur swing arm and skid plate. I have been using belray and it is hite, leaving that color on everything. i hate it.

i use the chain wax too

but, how do u know when u have enough on there?

Posted by: QuadTRX400ex

I like the PJ1

Posted by: beerock

I use the chain wax, it smells good too! - like coconut

Since no one said yet, I use Bel Ray lube. I have 2 types, one that goes on white, and isnt sticky at all once dry ( mainly for the gravel pits ) and the other one goes on and its a brownish amber color, and it stays on fairly well. Usually use that one when I go out in spots where I know it might get a little wet.

Don't ya just hate that. lol.
I drape and old rag or paper towel on the side of the swing arm and bottom part of the skid...takes care of the greasy film problem.
(We use Maxima by-the-way..I'm happy.)

Little secret for those of you that have mentioned the chain lube crap on your swingarms....if ya got a K&N filter,,spray the filter cleaner on your swingarm,,it takes that crap right off,,no scrubbing either.

PS..I use maxima chain guard and chain wax,,depends on the conditions.

For what conditions do u use the wax and what conditions do u use the guard in?

Posted by:

I use the chain wax in wet or muddy conditions,,in which I get the chain hot,,by taken the quad for a quick spin,,with the hammer down of course,,get back and immediatily spray the sucka down and let it sit for about 15 minutes to setup. I use the chain guard in dry, dusty conditions because it seems like the wax attracks dirt, sand, grit and what not to the chain.. does that make sense??

Posted by: yamaha1470

yeah thanks. I was just curious as to if there was a big difference in performance. I figured the wax would collect more dust.

Posted by: 300exHILLER

I use valvoline axle greese. use a eleectric toothbrush to put it on. No problems.
Is that bad?

Posted by: MX MadMann

i use spray paint, hairspray and easy cheese. i have found that if you put the cheese on first then paint then the hairspray it will not sling off and smells good too.

really i use chain wax!
