when you change from a 15 tooth to a 12 tooth frnt sprocket how much difference does it make in speed becuz i know some one who did this and there raptor only does 65 wat is wrong? is this suppose to happen, if you change it bak will it make it faster? how fast are they suppose to go? i think 87 am i rite?

Speed all depends on how its geared. Dropping from a 15 to a 12 in the front you will lose a lot of speed. lol

you go up in the rear or down in the front and you gain low end lose top end.

go down in the rear up in the front, you gain top speed lose bottom end

for every 1 tooth in the front, its about equal to three in the rear

forgot to mention, it also depends on the diamater of your tires!

When you go down with the front sprocket as stated above, you decrease your top end, however....you will increase your low end power. The "gearing" (not correct terminology, but works best for explination) is lowered. You now have more "low end" power. If you are going to be in sandy conditions for instance, this will help increase your usable power. Just depends on what you are doing with your bike.

i was just wanting ta know how much speed would be takin off cuz the one i was thinkin of buying only went 65 and that aint rite!! lol if ya know what i mean how and i was just wondering if it was because of the 12 tooth sprocket???? how fast are they supposed to go stock i think 85 or 87 am i rite?????

70 something stock, 14 tooth in the front is stock i believe, so 2 teeth down doing 65 is probably about right.

LOL. I hear ya.

If you drop to a 12 in front you will be in 5th gear looking for 6th & 7th gears for more speed, but great for wheelies though

Exactly. But its about the best gearing for tight woods there is.

I put a 12T in my Raptor from the stock 13T. The lowend improved drastically and made the Raptor much more usable on the trails. If your dune riding or something like that that requires more topend speed you probably don't want a smaller front sprocket. However if you ride trails or MX, I highly recommend changing the sprockets to something smaller.

so if i changed it highr it would have more top end speed i gotcha but wat if i did have the 15 tooth on their would it make it faster? or wat would it do besides give it more top end?

Posted by: Foxracin

The 15 will have more top speed, a lot less bottom end, and burn up ur clutch a lot faster.

Posted by: RaptorHappy660r

ic how will it burn the clutch up faster it dont make sense explain please!

Posted by: Foxracin

With the taller gearing you almost lose all bottom end and it puts more strees on the clutch trying to get up to speed.

Honestly I went from 13 to 14 to 15 and now on 16 w/ 39 rear and I noticed that up to 15 you really don't notice any bottom end being lost, the raptors have alot of torque and can work great with any of those sprockets.

But another thing you have to consider is the weight of your rims and tires will make it differ in performance.

hold up... i dont have a raptor, but my friend bought a 14t front sproket thinking he gains bottom end on his raptor... but now im reading that 13t was stock??? ... lol if this is tru then i gotta tell him all the crap he gave about him gaining so much bottom end is bs

Yep, that would be gearing it up. Going to a 12 up front would be gearing it down from stock. lol

haha ok thx for telling me, lol he thought he was so much quicker.. this will be great

Im goin from the 13-40 ratio to a 12-42 for woods and GNCC, Ive got 22's on the back which gave me more top end that I didnt want at all, but yea, goin down teeth on the front sprocket, and adding teeth to the back increase your low end.

Posted by: Foxracin

12/40 with 20's seem to work great for me in the tight stuff.

You can lug the motor down further without having to shift, with makes it really nice. I take out of second sometimes and don't even realize it until I can't find 5th.
