if i got an 250R how ****ed would i be as far as parts for them and racing

i have herd that the 250r is soon going to be done with racing and that parts will be hard to find.
is this true becouse i am geting sick of how much gas my EX uses
thanks

youll always be able to get parts for 250r's , probably on of the easiest quads to find parts for. and 250r's are not aloud in production classes anymore for obvious reasons. and if your complaining about your EX using gas wasit till you get a R

Posted by: wilkin250r

I use way more gas in my R than on a 400EX. Probably because I'm constantly throwing a roost, so I'm spinning the wheels twice as much going the exact same distance

Posted by: Wanksta

dont 2-strokes use less gas????

Posted by: wilkin250r

No way, they use more. Why would you think they use less?

Posted by: Wanksta

my blaster used about half my 400ex duz.
the 250r im thinkin about geting only has full FMF's as far as motor stuff

Posted by: wilkin250r

That was a blaster, at a whopping 18 horsepower. Of course it used less gas. The 250r is quite a bit more high-performance, with significantly more power output. More power output will require more fuel input.

Posted by: Wanksta

how much hp duz a 250r have???

Posted by: wilkin250r

About 35, and it's not terribly difficult to modify them to put out up to 50. It starts to get quite a bit more expensive after 50hp.

Posted by: baker250r

yea, haha. i had a blaster and it didnt hardly ever use gas. then I got the R, and well..... i was shell shocked. when my R was stock it wasnt a guzzler, but then again it wasnt very fuel friendly.... then after i started modding the motor... well, then the fuel mileage dropped down to, um..... 2mpg. I race one moto and use almost a half a tank. wich is like 5 laps around a 1.25 mile course
but as the saying goes..... SUCKS GAS AND HAULS *****!!!!!

Posted by: Wanksta

well im going to be "test riding" the R today so ill see if i like it

Posted by: get_up_mark

okay...a two stroke motor is pulling in the mixture of gas/air EVERY time the piston is going up and down. twice as many spark, gas and HORSEPOWER. your 400ex uses exhaust and intake valves which are turned by your cam. the cam only allows fuel in EVERY OTHER stroke of the the piston. get it?

Posted by: Wanksta

yea i get it

another question.....
what is so speshil about the 250R motor.?
why is it so fast and so popular?

Posted by: baker250r

well, it was a motor that was built before its time preaty much. they hit the nail on the head when they built that motor. the gearing, the cylinder layout, port layout, it just all came together in that motor. that lil 250 just packs a mean punch.

Posted by: wilkin250r

It's not just the motor, it's the entire package.

When the 250r first came out, there were other 2-stroke motors out that were just as fast or faster. The Suzuki LT250R was slightly faster, the Kawasaki Tecate-4 was a terrific motor, probably the fastest 250CC to ever come in an ATV frame.

However, none of these ATVs had nearly as nice suspension and handling as the TRX250R. Because of that, the 250r was wildly more popular. Since there were so many MORE of the Honda 250r, that is what all the aftermarket parts were made for.

I don't think there is anything you can physically DO to the 250r that you COULDN'T do to the LT250r or Tecate. It's just the simple fact that nobody makes an aftermarket big-bore cylinder for the LT250R, or stroker cranks for the Tecate. The parts simply aren't available because the motors are not as common.

Yeah I've had both an EX and an R and the EX wasn't a problem but the R friggen sucks it up like it's goin outta style.

srry for all the questions but i realy want to know all i can before or if i get one.
another question...
how heavy are the 250R's?

Posted by: DierWolf

which year? if your talking older models then its 328 lbs dry.

lots lighter than most atv's

Posted by: Wanksta

1986

if you are mechanicaly smart and know your sh*t about engines then i suggest the 250r , high output 2 strokes like this are gonna require lots of attention, i say hihg output cause a 200cc air cooled blaster is alot more bullet proof then a 40hp screaming 250r motor. i just wanted to enlighten you on a few things,

250r's are light, strong, agile, and crazy fast

but 2 stroke motors like this and much like a bike engine require periodicle maintence meaning new rings and or piston and also gonna have to bore it now and then and get the next size up piston.

when you go to buy an r unless you not paying alot of money you want a nice machine, you always want to look the engine over and ask the guy, "what bore is the cylnder on" 86 cylnders you can bore to .100" over 87,88,89 you can only bore the cylnder to .080" over stock. so if you are buying a 86 and the bore in on .080" or something your running out of cylnder to bore your gonna have to get a new cylnder soon!

as far as the gas issue goes, dont exspect to go on long trail rides and all because it just aint gonna happen. after all the reason they banned production of most 2 strokes was the were horrible on emissions which in turn also means they sucked alot of fuel ........ lol

part are the easiest thing to find and the 250r will never die, you can get anything from a nut you need to a atfermarket aluminum frame.

just because the R is 14 years old doesnt mean the legeng is dead or going to die!

" IF YOU DONT MIX THE GAS, IT AINT FAST"

thanks for all the fead back.
im going to check out this kids 250R and see if its in good enough condition to trade for my 400.
