i have an 88 250r w/ a pipe and some minor porting work. my rear tires are 20-11-9. what gearing should i use to set it up for mx.

I think stock gearing would be fine. That is 13-38

I run 14/38 for mx... but then again i have quite a modded motor, and run 18 inch tires.

does one tooth in the front make that big of a difference? im also lookin to get more out of the motor but its stayin stock bore

Posted by: baker250r

why does it have to stay stock bore? i know when i went from 13 toth to 14 tooth, i noticed i didnt have to do as much shifting, but then i did have to feather the clutch more in the corners

i just had the top and bottom end rebuilt this winter and my dad wanted to keep it stock bore till i was used to the power. im gonna to wait till the top end goes bad and then i would like to put a 265 in it. so for right now im gonna see what i can pull out of the motor w/ bolt ons and put my money towards other parts to such as a new axle and sprockets/chain.

ooo, i thought u were meaning u never wanted to go bigger than stock. but now i see where u are comin from. to get a 265, all u do is bore it .80 over. but yea. when u do that, and also get a good port job.... u better hold on to ur shorts man... cuz shes goona take u for a ride

how much of a hp difference is there? just curious
