I have a stock 88/89 swingarm, and I just got some OEM pivot bolt berrings in cause the old ones are dead. I was wondering if there is any way I can get them out. The manual says you need specialty tools to do that, I was thinking I would probably be better off bringing it to a dealer.

no special tools needed, get a 19mm 3/8 craftman socket, brass punch and you are set. the socket is a perfect fit for the swingarm. put the socket on the bearing and beat it out. you can use the same socket to install the new ones, but don't hit it very hard, just a light tap. if they are real hard to get out, use a 18mm socket to beat the races out of the bearing and then the 19 to get the rest of the bearing out.

my swingarm bearing didnt have inner races... they were just needle bearings. but he is right about the socket idea.

I don't think it is possible to beat the bearings out a a 88 swingarm! The center of the arm is smaller than the outer ! That means the bearings come out the same way they go in !!

I was kinda thinkin the same thing. I know on my ace fab swing arm, i had to press the bearings way into the swingarm, then press the bushings in on the outside. so the bearings are actually 2 inches in on each side. i hope my bearings never go out... cuz i dont know how i would get them out.

I thought the same thing. So is there any way I can get then out myself? I have managed to not have this in the shop at all so far, and I have done all the work. A goal of mine for this project was to not have it in the shop. And I would hate to pay shop prices.

use a vice to remove the two end 'bungs' then from opposite side beat the rollers out of each side , then sharpen up a small flat screwdriver and carefully slice thru the outer section of the bearing , they then drop out , you may need to clean up the hole a bit but its no problem , while your there drill ,tap and insert a grease nipple in the swingarm or your bearings will only last 5 minutes ... to get new ones in carefully use a 19/20/22 mm socket as a tap .. easy ..
