Hey,
I just picked up what i thought was a 93 300ex. Well after getting it home and looking at it alittle closer i've come to the conclusion that it is a 250x. now my problem is, i need to put clutches in it, but i need to know what year the thing actually is. Does anyone know where i can run the engine vin to find out the year? thanks for the help

Easiest way to tell:
Kickstart = 250x
Electric Start = 300ex

I dont beleive the clutch has changed between the 250x and the 300ex. They just put a longer stroke crank and a battery + electric start to make the 300ex. Other than that it's mostly the same quad. Hell the 300ex plastic still has the kickstart slot in the plastics on the right hand side, lol.

so pretty much everything from a 300ex will work. Any idea where i can run the engine id number to find out what year it is.(no sticker on frame)

yes, all the 300ex parts will fir except the ones he mentioned. what color is it? my friend had a 1992, and it was blue and white. i know there was a grey/red one, but i dont know what year it was

87's were grey/red

Also the reverse lever on the 250x's were different since there wasn't a starter in the way. And the 87's had a different bolt pattern on the front wheels. Almost everything else is the same though.

ok, well it's blue and white so i guess i can assume it is a 92. I don't know if you's have ever heard of a www.ronayers.com. They list engine serial numbers on there for everything EXCEPT the damn 250x. Oh well thanks for the help.

91 250x were also blue and white, you can tell by the plate on the front of the frame

Per my Clymer manual the engine serial number on 250x models starts with TE13E and 300ex motors start with TE19E. Let me know what the engine # is.

You could have a mixed beast. I have a 91 and the frame # is on a plate where the top of front bumper bolts onto. I have an 87 frame that has the number on a flat spot where the bottom bolts onto. So have a look there and let me know what the Serial number is I might be able to help.
