i am just wondering what is hot start on the 450? i always hear about it, what does it do

EDIT: i dont know

totally wrong, the trx450 has an auto decompression mechanism, the hot start is a thumb push lever that pushes in about an inch, it opens your carb just the slightest amount to make starting a warm motor that much easier.

Correct, there is a plunger type thing that goes into the carb. It is sealed with an oring an attached to the end of the hot start cable. When you push it with your thumb it pulls the plunger out a little, letting in air to your air fuel mixture. That in turn leans out the quad making it easier to start.

Your pilot jet must be too rich if you have to use the Hot Start when starting it cold.

Its the exact opposie of a choke basically.
You choke when its cold for more fuel and less air, you hot start when hot for more air and less fuel.
