Hey i have a 2003 KFX 400 and i have taken the motor out about 3 times now and i have adjusted my vales and have tightend my cam chain the specs and it tics real heavy one the right side of the motor. It has been this way sence last summer and i cant figure out why is making the ticing. I am thinking it might be my wrist-pin but not acually sure about it. Please Help

i had a ticking sound in my sled motor and it ended being that my wrist pin was cracked so that could be it in your kfx.

Try changing to a thicker oil and see if that helps. If it does then dont worry, but if it dont try some STP in it. If its a wrist pins dont chance it, tear it dont or have it done. Just my 2cents worth

How many clicks are left on your tensioner? It sounds like the cam chain is stretched. It's real common on this bike.

yeah i already have synthetic oil in it and like my tensior i tried turning and it turn but it is hard so i dunno if it is about to break or not

should it be hard to turn?????

Hes probably right on this one. My buddy just brought his 03 Z w/ low hours in and the shop put in a new heavy duty chain and new tensioner, and if I remember right they used a tensioner out of a vinson or something. Ill find out.

The stock tensioner is not adjustable. A spring pushes the rod out to keep tension on the chain as the chain stretches. To check it, pull the center bolt and springout of the tensioner. Then remove the two other bolts, and remove the tensioner. Look at the rod and see if you can pull it out any more. If its all the way out you need a cam chain.

I worked on 2 or 3 of theses bikes with this problem. It is the cam chain stretches and the tensioner can not adjust enough to fix it. I put a new chain and it was fixed but not for long. The tensioners are junk and so are the chains. I would get a Heavy Duty chain and an aftermarket tensioner. I got one from FST bike runs great still the guy is very happy.
