Welcome to the Round 6 coverage of the 2005 ATVA ITP Moose Grand National Championship Motocross Series at Budd Creek in Maryland. A hefty increase in entries over last year gave the promoters of this National an outstanding 717. Lots of qualifying and lots of mud greeted Saturday riders, crew and photographers alike. It wasn’t fun, but Sunday was supposed to be looking good. Even though The Weather Channel got it wrong again, the track crew did their best to make the track as good as possible on Sunday morning even going to far as to cutting out a portion of the track that turned into a mini-pond due to all the overnight rain.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

On my way into the track, I came across Sunday morning rush hour.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

This is Amish Country and it was very apparent on the six mile stretch of road between my hotel and the track.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The day worked it’s way into what you see here but not without a cold, bummer of a morning.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The Fox Racing Shox rig was on hand although they didn’t look to be a vendor, but instead on hand to show their intended support for ATV racing.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Pro row was scarce…but it was still very early when this picture was taken.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Doug Gust played chauffeur for the morning.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Rider file in for the Pro riders meeting that takes every Sunday at 9am.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The Budds Creek promoter chose plastic spoons to draw for gate picks.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Donald Lysinger was hoping his hat would bring some luck today. (I think it gained more laughs than anything!)

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Unfortunately for Donald, it was Gilbert Attix that got all the luck first thing in the morning with the number one gate pick of the day.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Jeremiah Jones still wears a brace for his thumb as his injury from round four nearly a month ago has yet to heal. Due to that, Jeremiah has had only about 15 minutes of seat time since the last round two weeks ago. They look over the soggy track.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Referee Bob “Smitty” Smith, tells the Pros their practice and motos are being pushed back as a result of the rain.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

When there was a couple of spoons left in the box, everyone wondered who was missing. Turns out one of them was John Natalie who showed up after everyone was almost gone and fined $25 for missing the riders meeting. John’s gate pick was pretty decent even though he wasn’t on hand to pick it, inspiring everyone to consider missing the next meeting to up their chances of getting a good pick. “I’d pay $25 for a better gate pick,” was joked by more than one rider.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Close to 1pm, riders make their way to the line and look over the sogginess they are about to take off in.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Riders found sweeping, incredibly difficult and almost pointless given the sticky mud that littered the starting gate and all ways just getting on the gate, thus…

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

…finding ways to be creative on getting their ATVs to the line without needing a bath once you got there.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Dunk’s pretty white Yamaha about to make it’s way to the line.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Keith Little looks over the line up deciding on his gate pick…and looking for the best line on how to get there.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Ever the clown of the pits, Doug Gust’s mechanic Paul Turner gives me his ever popular pose.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

A change up was seen by many riders with their gear, Pat Brown ditching the pearly whites and opting for the colorful red.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

One of my favorite riders to shoot of all times it down for the count with another stroke of VERY bad luck. Jason Luburgh crashed on the site lap of Saturday’s qualifier when his ATV got upset and threw him on the other side of Henry Hill. Although he didn’t go to the hospital, Doc Ragon was pretty sure it was a broken collar bone. Jason stayed around for Sunday’s racing and planned to go to his family doctor when he got home.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Pro newbie, Josh Wimmer (I forgot to check of any relations to Dustin Wimmer, but I’m pretty sure there are none...strange) lines up for his very first Pro moto.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Matt White kept his back tires clean by this method of getting to the line.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Michelle Reiser works off some of the mud collected on John Natalie’s front tires.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Seeing red from frustration, Dustin Wimmer decides a change is in order. Not only did he switch up his plastics but he’s now running a Curtis Sparks tuned motor, formerly with TC.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

With Superman strength, Ryan Barnes puts his muscles to good use by helping Harold Goodman get his bike to the line.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Kory Ellis opts for the old fashioned way of getting to the line by riding it there, while…

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

...Donald Lysinger and crew push his.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Joe Haavisto lays down some rubber to try and get some good grip.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Apparently it was sticky enough, as he lifted it right up headed out for his site lap.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Tim Farr found the most traction off the line as he beat everyone to the first turn.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg1.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Justin Bres (99), Patrick Brown (199) and newcomer Josh Wimmer (95) bikes decided to have a little get together.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Everyone else heads around the corner up Henry hill.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Finally they separate and get going again.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Before they made it around for the first lap, John Natalie made his way past Tim Farr and began his steady pull away.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg2.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Following closely were Doug Gust (55), Jason Dunkelberger (19) and Dustin Wimmer (191).

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

As well as, Keith Little (12), Travis Spader (30), Gilbert Attix (309), Jeremiah Jones (2) and cresting the jump is Joe Byrd (7).

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg3.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The rest of the class hanging tight to Joe Byrd are Kory Ellis (53), Tavis Cain (6), Joe Haavisto (75), Donald Lamborn (80), Matt White (32)…

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

…Harold Goodman (708), Donald Lysinger (411), and catching up Patrick Brown (199).

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

John Natalie pulls a slight disappearing move on the rest of the class…

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

…while Tim Farr holds second…

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg5.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

…and Doug Gust sits still in third

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg6.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Further back in the pack, Kory Ellis leads a train of riders.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Gilbert Attix was on fire holding off even Jeremiah Jones for a little bit.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

While I was out there shooting it took me nearly two laps to get my brain functioning on who was where in the race and to my surprise, Jason Dunkelberger was having a phenomenal run in fourth with Dustin Wimmer trying to knock down his back door. Dunk was holding his own against the youngster and it was a great site to see both of them running up front so strongly.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg4.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Although Keith was having a stellar run up front in about fifth, he would eventually start a decent back to 18th due to motor issues.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Travis Spader maintained a solid run to fifth for the moto.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Justin Bres rockets his way up the hill heading to the checkers with a great 15th for the moto passing Josh Wimmer who took home 16th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Taking 13th for the moto, Matt White edges out Donald Lamborn (80) who ends it with 14th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Gilbert Attix earned 12th over Joe Byrd who fell back to 17th.

(NOTE: I did not learn what happened that dropped Byrd back so drastically at the end of the first moto)

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Apparently the hat worked as Donald Lysinger (411) finished his highest moto of the year so far in 11th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Harold Goodman completed the moto in 10th.

Note: From a photographer's stand point, I have yet to meet a rider that didn't like a back shot of himself going into a corner. I generally steer away from taking pictures of those who don't have their name viewable on their back. It just makes for a much cooler shot, IMO, when you have that.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

An amazing ride by Tavis Cain gave him the moto position number seven ahead of both Joe Haavisto who also had a great ride and Patrick Brown who came from nearly last to finish the moto behind Haavisto in 9th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Jeremiah Jones worked up to finish in sixth behind Spader.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

With Natalie crossing the finish line already, Farr had the most racing action as he fended off Doug Gust and the charging Dustin Wimmer. They finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively for moto one.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg7.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Dustin Wimmer wipes away the sweat and dirt.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Both Doug Gust and Jeremiah Jones sit in the shade trying to come down off the adrenaline high of the first moto.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Kory Ellis’ luck at Budds Creek is without. In the four years he’s been attending this national, this makes his third time breaking down at this track. He feels cursed as he DNFs the first moto.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The line of fans surrounded Natalie as he cheeses for the fans with cameras that looked like the paparazzi.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Farr and Baldwin talk it over.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

As do teammates Chad Lohr and Tavis Cain about his great ride.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

With his mechanics indisposed trying to fix what went wrong in the motor, Keith Little gives his boots a bath.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Lost Creek Cycles gutted one of Dunk’s bikes to fix the one that broke down as he too suffered a DNF for the moto. It would have been neat to see how Jason would have finished had he not had motor issues.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Doug Gust signs a fans shirt.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

This guy was bragging to his buddy about all the Pro’s he just met, showing off his signed shirt.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Pro moto two begins with Tim Farr snagging another holeshot, this time though he’ll be fighting tooth and nail to keep it out front while all kinds of drama goes on behind him.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg8.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The rest of the pack make it around the bottom of the hill turn to head up Henry Hill.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The train of riders high tail it after Tim Farr, with his biggest threats being Jeremiah Jones and Doug Gust and hard charging John Natalie.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Near the beginning the moto, Joe Haavisto holds off Dustin Wimmer.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

While Spader is chased by Joe Byrd, Justin Bres and Patrick Brown.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Donald Lamborn (80) makes a good early run leading over Gilbert Attix, Donald Lysinger and Jason Dunkelberger.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Tavis Cain, Matt White and Josh Wimmer settle in behind Dunk and Lysinger.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Heading up the hill to the pit board area, Jeremiah Jones is going hard.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Cresting the hill where the controversial occurrence is about to take place which I am of course in the wrong place to see it.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg9.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Tim Farr makes it through the turn over Jeremiah and if you notice the mechanics turning their attention to what was happening behind them.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg10.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Gust looses his third position to Natalie and other riders make the pass, but here Gust works to get passed Travis Spader.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg11.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Natalie moves into second behind Tim Farr, when Jeremiah Jones looses his position.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg12.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Gust works to get around more riders to catch up to the leaders, including Harold Goodman.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Tavis Cain begins another great moto currently ahead of Matt White and Jason Dunkelberger.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

After a get off, Natalie falls back well over an entire lap down from the leaders and finds himself mixing it up with a lot of riders although knowing a lot of things would have to go wrong for him to be able to make up that much time.

http://www.atvriders.com/images/atvracing/gncmx/2005/06BuddsCreek/buddsimg13.jpg

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Josh Wimmer improves on his first moto by one finishing it with a 15th and taking home 17th overall.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Harold Goodman looks great flying over a jump but would eventually be towed off the track with a DNF but still managing a 16th overall.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Donald Lysinger (411) gets around Donald Lamborn (80) to finish the moto in 13th one ahead of Lamborn. Lysinger would take home is highest overall for the year with 12th while Lamborn does the same with 15th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Although for much of the moto, Pat Brown was racing up front he would instead earn the 17th spot for the moto taking the 14th overall position. He falls back out of the top 10 and resides in 12th with 55 points.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Although the bike wasn’t the problem this time, Keith himself had the problem and finishes a dismal 16th for the moto giving him 19th for the overall. His lowest score in a long time. He remains in the top ten sitting in 6th with 81 points.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Up front, the action keeps going as Tim Farr hangs tough ahead of Dustin Wimmer and Doug Gust who passed everyone to catch up to the front. Wimmer does a quick look back to realize he’s right there.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Having nothing but bad luck in this round, although realizing he can indeed race at the top, Dunk suffers another bike situation, this time when he lost his seat in the first half of the race. He would still finish 12th for the moto and 18th overall. He moves out of the top 10 by just one point.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Matt White rally’s up the hill en route to the 11th place for both the moto and overall. He is just six points shy of the top ten with 52 points.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Justin Bres finally earns his first pro points for the season after having tried to qualify at almost all of them. He does so with stellar fashion by going 15-10 for an overall 13th. Great job, Justin.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Jeremiah Jones works back up to land the moto just behind Tavis Cain in 9th. Jones would overall the day in 7th while Cain earns his highest overall this season by taking home 6th.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Turning around his bad first moto, Joe Byrd ups it by ten positions and finishes 7th with an overall 10th. He remains in the top ten where he sits currently in 7th with 73 points.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Still a lap down, John can really do nothing but dig in some good lap times. He will eventually finish the moto with an 18th behind the DNS of Kory Ellis who came to the line but never made it across it and the DNF of Harold Goodman.

Joe Haavisto will get around Gilbert Attix where they will finish 5th and 6th respectively. Both riders really uped their ante this weekend, both earning their highest finishes so far this year. Haavisto with the overall 5th and Attix with the overall 8th. Great job, guys!

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Despite all the drama of the race, Travis Spader remains cool and increases by one over the first moto to finish 4th for the overall 4th. Spader currently has 97 points where he sits in 5th place.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Despite the great work it took to get back up to the front, Gust got parked behind both Dustin Wimmer and Tim Farr and had to settle with third for the moto and 3rd Overall.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

On many valiant attempts to get around the veteran Tim Farr including this one overshooting a tabletop, Dustin Wimmer eventually looses out and still earns his highest finish this year with 2nd and a 2nd overall which skyrockets him into the top 10 where he sits 9th with 69 points.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The 1, 2 and 3 bikes cool off!

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Dustin Wimmer got a little tight lipped as he apparently forgot what to do on the podium.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

Doug Gust does his interview for ATV Sport TV.

Posted by: GNC_Reporter

The celebration. Bad angle…I know!

Posted by: Cron

Go through the race report agian. Above some pictures will be a little photo, click that and it is video.

I must say, neither Natalie being pushed out wide on the holeshot or the bump on Gust looked very bad, seems over reacted to me, but maybe it is just a bad angle to see what truly happaned?

Posted by: Jeff2269

Is there only one little video clip? I could only find one small pic to click on.

Posted by: Jeff2269

Man, the quality of the videos are terrible.

Posted by: atvmx14

Lower quality means faster downloads. Fine with me.

Man natalie got slung over the bars. Talk about coming to a complete halt.

Posted by: moto50

After Natalie's crash he came back on the track in 12th place so how was he 2 laps down? did he have to pull off to adjust something or what?

Posted by: mxmike17

Great coverage! I didnt get to go see it live so this is awsome for me!

curious also?

Posted by: pgregg85

He was in 12th after the crash but the front brake caliper locked up a lap or so later and he had to pull off and have it taken off. By the time they got the caliper off he was a lap or 2 down.

Posted by: Dupontster

I think his right front caliper jammed up and they had to cut the line to get it to move....He stopped right at the top of the hill on the first turn.....
