stock- 65+

with your mods- 68-70 maybe?

Posted by: Dirt Merchant

mine went 70.4, with stock gearing, 416, 20 inch tires, stock cdi, stock exhaust, stock timing..

Now with 22's it would probably go a tad faster... but may have issues pulling the bigger tire.. you can have a BANGIN *** motor, bangin pipe, but with the stock gearing and stock cdi, your still going to go the same speed, just will get there faster

btw, TRY THE SEARCH FUNCTION! YOULL BE SURPRZED AT WHAT YOU FIND!

2004 and older go 67. 2005 goes 55 but in 18sec. The pipes and jets jus help it get 2 the top speed faster they make no difference
in speed

Posted by: yamablaster24

2005 only goes 55 eh?

With stock gearing and tire sizes and CDI no matter if you have a big bore 450 stroker or stock bike you will do the same speed.

Check out the May issue of ATV Sport. 55.7 MPH @ 3500 ft. elevation. Stock bike. Hope that helps.

If you are right then that is only a little faster then a stock yamaha blaster.

Yep that's right. That 14T front and 39T rear sprocket really kills the top speed of the 2005. Switch the sprockets out for a 15T/16T front and a 38T rear and you'll be doing 65+ MPH. Easy mod. Didn't they also lower the ratio of the tranny gears on the 2005? If they did, it would make it even harder to compensate for the speed loss.

Posted by: 400exc

mine is a 2002, and when i got it, it was all stock, and only a year old, and it went 74. i dont know why, but i got clocked at that

Posted by: darkstar

how did you get clocked with a gun or were you driving along side a car

Posted by: bonified5

so whats the gearing of the ex's before 05?

Posted by: NacsMXer

15/38

Posted by: EX_DownUnda

I have an 05 and was going along side my friend on his bike(has a speedo) and I did 110 Kilometers per hour which is 68MPH. This is at sea level. Maybe his speedo is off but I was definately going faster than 55.

Posted by: Christoph

are you guys talkin miles or kilometers, most guys on this site are from U.S., im from canada and we use both measurements up here.

Posted by: enduro400rider

anyone runin a 16T up front 36 in the back and 22 inch rear tires? i put that combo on yesterday and my 400 seems really fast top speed wise. fast enough to pass cars on a 45 mph road at cruising RPM in 4th i had it toped in 5th but it was shakin like a mother because of the bad rear rims. just wondering if anyone knows the top speed of that combo cuz i dont have a radar gun

well if they say it goes 55-70 it's MPH if they say 100-110 it's Km/h

Oh I got my 500 to go close to 90MPH haha must sucks to be stock

Posted by: troutman561

there is no way the 05' is that much slower than previous years, stock my 05' was only about 1 mph slower than a stock 04'

Posted by: Joe400ex

i want to geta modded shee just to go 100+. thats gota be nice

Posted by: 44oEX

well a local yamaha company built a 409 shee, and they raced it agains the company truck witch goes 100mph and the claim the truck can't keep up with the shee in top speed

Posted by: 04'400ex'er

when my bike was stock, it clocked on a gun at 58mph. my bros stock banshee clocked at 62. And a modded banshee ran 63. all on a radar gun.

Posted by: 2004400exa

mine does around 65 to 70 depends on which way the wind is blowin ..lol

Posted by: 400exstud

my 400 with only a K&N did 68.4 with a Garman GPS strapped to my chest protector, now I have a 39 rear sprocket and have not checked that speed.

Posted by: honda400ex2003

My 400ex did about the same as my friends DVX 400. He said his goes 75. I think it is alittle fast but he used a gps. I was right next to him everytime we raced down the road. We did 4 runs he edged me out alittle twice and I edged him out twice. but we were almost the same. It was like half a legth of an atv. All I have is a kandn t-4 and a dynojet jet kit with the stock gearing and tires. Just my two cents though. Steve

Posted by: honda400ex2003

My 400ex did ~69 with 21" mud sharks and a 39 rear sprocket. I know it did ~69 because it raced my friend with a raptor 350. he had his radared at 68.7mph and I was pulling ahead the whole time we raced plus I got to top end alot faster than he did. Steve

Posted by: hondasmith

well i dont got no 400ex but i do got a 300ex that runs 66 mph, i got clocked when i was racing my friend, he got a 350 warrior with pipe his will run 63 and my 300ex is piped jeted and 22" razer on the back with stock gearing

u werent doin over 55 i mean it was in a magazine nd clocked at 55 in 18.5sec

Posted by: honda400ex2003

My sister has a 300ex that's all stock except razr tires all around and it took the 350 raptor off the line and for about 100' until he hit sixth gear. His raptor 350 has a 2+ tooth front sprocket and a pipe. It still sucks. My 400ex with stock gearing will just walk all over him. Honda's rule!!! Steve

Posted by: bigjjohnson369

me and my cousin were racing he has a 2004 and i had the 2005 and i had big tires on and he beat me on takeoff but we were dead even in speed.

Posted by: xx3003xrdrxx

my 300ex with yoshi full , pro flow air intake , uni filter , 22' tires, will do 67. and i know that this is right because i have checked it with a gps , beside a car , and again with a different gps .

Posted by: Jared Hamilton

i topped out on a high way that had a radar board that tells your speed , and was doing 68 on a stock 2000. a couple days later me and a neighbor raced his 05 aganist my 00 and he was about 1/2 ft. in front of me topped out. this was in a 3mile flat field.for that matter a 05 400ex runs faster than 55 mph.

If you guys really want to experience speed then get yourself a YFZ 450. I have both a 05 400 and a 05 YFZ, both have full exhaust, k & n, and are jetted correctly. The YFZ is just way more fn to ride, and it sounds better too!

Posted by: 400Rider022

05 goes way more than 55 pal :

Posted by: key4202003

acesful must have fallen down and became filthy...rich

WHO CARES ABOUT TOP SPEED, ALL THAT MATTERS IS HOW FAST IT WILL TOP OUT!!!

Posted by: 44oEX

ehhh NO. if it was everybody would be running 18's with a 13 and 42 gearing, you would only go 40 but man would it get there fast. top speed it not important in XC and in some MX but for trail riders it is.

Posted by: lildude

i put a 14 tooth front sprocket on my ex and it goes 63, it went 68 stock, i dont see how the 14 tooth could effect the 05's 13 mph

Posted by: blakefoote

mine has been clocked at 85 with the mods listed.

well I don't think it only does 55 but, honda change the gear ratios, not just the sprockets.

I dont know where the power is coming from but it was clocked at 85 and I passed a truck going 75 like it was sitting still. I just changed my tires though. It had 22s on the front and 20s on the back. And it also has a jet kit.

a jet kit wont give you any top end tho. i have the same mods as you and i know im definately not doin 85! do you have it geared for top end? if not, maybe you have a majic motor or sumthin then, iono

Posted by: journeyman

all this talk of a 2005 400ex only going 55mph is BULL@%#&!!!!!!

there is no way

the first day I got my 05 i was runnin only maybe 1 bike length behind a stock 03 z400....with a hmf slip on,uni air, jet kit and white brothers cdi, im now beating the z400 by 2-3 bikes....

so maybe it was posted in the magazine or what not...but it is WRONG...it must be a misprint or something because the 05 is haulin alot more ***** then 55mph!!!!!!
