Posted by: 400EX QUADER

CORY400EXQUADER@hotmail.com

Posted by: 400EX QUADER

SWEET!!! Give us some performance info.Like how fast it goes and what it beats and what it's used for.

Posted by: thumper169

i ride it every weekend. on enduro type trails. i know its pretty prim on all the aftermarket acc, but it is really tame and will take the gas gas 300 a dealer repd out, some raptors and the 450 yamaha (stock) i dragged. but my buddies full mod banshee can creep away on the long roads. but it dont touch the 600 in the tighter trails.

i'd like to see some pics lildave55@hotmail.com or maybe someone who already have the pics could post them here

Posted by: duke416ex

Here's some pics

Posted by: duke416ex

another

Posted by: duke416ex

one more

Posted by: duke416ex

I guess it's backwards kick, man I would hate to cut the fenders.

Posted by: 400exredrider

someone needs to put the new liquid cooled 600 in there

Posted by: thumper169

what 600 liquid?

Posted by: 400exredrider

my bad the new liquid cooled 650 i ment sorry

Posted by: thumper169

ya that would be sweet. but more weight for cooling system. i know the 650r bike is killer power they desert race them in quads. and i heard the 650r will run hot if you arent desert type racing. it really only gets about 90s around here. i added the fst oil cooler and air scoops keep the temp down good too.

Posted by: 400exredrider

the 650 running hot if its not in the desert sounds lame to me but who knows

Posted by: thumper169

the motor builds way hotter temps without airflow.

Posted by: 44oEX

yeah but they run the bikes on trails and it's all good, the bike is a trail bike from the dealer so I would think that doing trails would be ok.

Posted by: 400exredrider

honda will pry throw that in a quad soon anyway to create a raptor DS650 predator class quad,,, it would def haul

Posted by: 400exredrider

44o i want your plastics

Posted by: thumper169

the fenders were e bay specials. when i got them they were dull. i clearcoated them with flex additive.

Posted by: 400exredrider

yeah but i like 440s custom fronts with the scoops

Posted by: 44oEX

thanks man here is a bigger pic. there not hard to do.
not to bad for STOCK fender

Posted by: 400exredrider

i saw your post on how to do it,,, but i dunno if i wanna risk messin up the only fenders i got for the old XC 416, you krylon fusioned them plastics didnt you? how do they hold up

Posted by: 400exredrider

im still tryin to finish the project XC 416 but i need shocks like elkas or something,, then im going cut the plastics,,, yes im going to cut the plastics on an XC quad,, then im going to do something with the hood

No that is what I shoul have done I just used normal paint. the front fender is doing great, but the back is starting to show some red spots where my boots are rubbing, oh well I guess I need more stickers
If you look in the pic you can see some red on the backs.

If I keep It I might get a set of real black fenders for the back.

you go for it. try i out and see how it turns out, just take you time and mesure alot

Posted by: bayou boy

I think for this type of quad the air cooled engine he is using is a great idea for the simple fact the motor resembles the 400ex motor making it a killer sleeper

Posted by: 400exredrider

yeah its great but who cares about sleeper... heck throw the liquid cooled 650 that has like 60HP (thats an estimate) in there and let it rip.

Posted by: thumper169

i just put my 600 on here to let anyone know i would help to make ther own. a 650 is in the area of 3500. and you can get a 600 for 1800. plus you will need radiators for a 650. for the guy with a budget in mind, you could use the extra money for the stuff you will need, like a edelbrock or keihin. i know faster is better, but i have a hard time holdin this boy down! .

I am seriously thinking about that swap. I blew a head gasket in my 500ex, and I need more power The problem is that I would have to sell my 500 motor ( I would fix the gasket ) and find a 650, man that would be SWEET

So if anyone has a 650 motor or want a 500 motor let me know

Posted by: TampaBoy813

how do you build a 500ex?
are you using a XR500 motor?
XR500 parts inter change?

Posted by: 400exredrider

do the 650,,, i bet youd be one of the first, and it would be insane power

Posted by: TampaBoy813

whats the HP on the 650 motor?

Posted by: 400exredrider

ill find it just a min

Posted by: 400exredrider

The engine puts out 43 horsepower at 6750 rpm with all the emissions junk installed. With the restrictions removed (and properly jetted), the bike comes alive and pumps out 27 percent more horsepower, all the way up to 55 strong ponies

kinda dissappointing with all the restrictive crap eh

it's a 400ex motor that has been bored and stroked to 500cc. I woudl think that it has more power then a XR500. is makes around 45 HP and 75 ft pd of torque.

I did a little search and it has been done a couple time, normaly for desert. I would use it mostly for trail and mx.

I need to find a xr 650 motor for cheap tho that is the problem.
try to find me one and i'll post pics when I am done

I did the YZ426 motor in my 400ex...its quite fast...and the motor is stock other then the pipe and filter..

Posted by: 44oEX

well the 500 would be faster then the 426 so I want more

Posted by: CBF2

Use a XR 650L motor. It is an air cooled XR 600 motor bored 50cc over and has electric start so you do not have to mess with the kickstarter. The 650L motor and XR 600 motor use the same mounts.

Posted by: thumper169

a 650l is a bad choice because of the transmission spread and basket ratio. also the smogging puts the horsepower under a 600. honda could be making a version of these two motors for electric starting.

nah I would like liquid cooled alot better. and with all the trouble I got with batteries, a kick start would be no problem. and like thumper said the gear ratio would be closer in the 650R witch would be better for trails.

Posted by: Pvt. Maggot

Its been done, I almost did it, lack of funds...

Posted by: 44oEX

yeah I saw that pic a couple time. the funding won't be a problem If I sell the 500ex motor. The problem is that there are not 650r motor anywhere.

Posted by: Bender

If you got the funds by a used 650XR and part the bike out on ebay.

Posted by: 44oEX

well that would work but I won't get much for the rest of the bike. And I don't really have much money, I have to sell the 500 motor to pay for the 650 motor.
